I doubt Pope Leo XIV will lose any sleep over this, before he begins his pilgrimage to Africa tomorrow. But the rest of us should. Because it is unhinged, uncharitable and unchristian. Is there no bottom to this moral squalor?

God help us. This is disgraceful language coming from a Christian, or anyone with a soul. It was just as wrong to celebrate the death of Charlie Kirk as it is to celebrate that of Robert Mueller. May they rest in peace. And may we never forget that Jesus's message is about mercy.

I know Pope Leo XIV to be a kind, open, humble, modest, decisive, hard-working, straightforward, trustworthy, and down-to-earth man. A brilliant choice. May God bless him.

As a reminder, Catholic teaching is that the death penalty is "inadmissible." So please stop calling the Catholic justices who allowed an execution to take place "pro life." All life is reverenced as sacred by the church, even the life of the person on death row.

In my 25 years as a priest and almost 40 as a Jesuit, I've known hundreds of holy, faithful and celibate gay priests. They've been my superiors, my teachers, my confessors, my mentors, my spiritual directors and my friends. And if you're Catholic, they've celebrated Masses for you, baptized your children, heard your confessions, visited you in hospitals, presided at your weddings and buried your parents. The church would be immeasurably poorer without them.
