This week marks the official appointment of the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Türkiye.
Ambassador Alle Dorhout presented his accreditation letters to the President of the Republic of Türkiye, and laid a wreath at Anıtkabir.

Vorig jaar is in Den Haag afgesproken dat we als Europa meer verantwoordelijkheid nemen voor onze eigen defensie en veiligheid. Dit jaar zetten we die historische ambities om in concrete resultaten.
Nederland geeft het goede voorbeeld. We investeren fors meer in defensiemateriaal en menskracht en zetten in op de nieuwste technieken. Tijdens deze NAVO-top ondertekenen we verschillende deals met landen en bedrijven om de Europese defensiecapaciteit te versterken.
Zo bouwen we aan een steviger Europa binnen de NAVO met een eerlijke verdeling van taken. En maken we ons bondgenootschap met alle 32 lidstaten sterker dan ooit.
Netherlands Chief of Defence, General Onno Eichelsheim, visited Türkiye and met his counterpart, General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu. Türkiye is an indispensable NATO Ally on the south-eastern flank. By strengthening military cooperation, we enhance European and regional security.

Türkiye is an important partner and NATO ally for both the Netherlands and the EU. We share close economic ties and work together closely on security and migration. Türkiye also acts a mediator on a number of major geopolitical conflicts, such as Ukraine and Gaza. I discussed these matters this afternoon with President @RTErdogan.
Of course, the war in Iran and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz also featured heavily in our discussion. Iran borders Türkiye, so this war is taking place on its doorstep. We also discussed stability in Syria and looked ahead to the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara. I look forward to meeting President Erdoğan there.
