#Pollinator species have suffered dramatic declines & most of our landscapes offer too little appropriate habitat & forage for these essential animals. Join Kim Eierman @EcoBeneficial 6/23 at 7pm during #PollinatorWeek to learn how you can help. duke.is/jrgzv #DukeU

Seen any really cool #tree burls, like this one taken by Rockingham County Forester Greg Jordan? Greg is fascinated by the mystery of burls and wrote a great blog on the topic. Check it out and some other cool #burl photos on our website. #NH extension.unh.edu/blog/2022/…

All ethics so far evolved rest upon a single premise: that the individual is a member of a community of interdependent parts. The land ethic simply enlarges the boundaries of the community to include soils, waters, plants & animals, or collectively the land. ~Aldo Leopold #quote

This week is #PollinatorWeek. Over 75% of the world’s food crops and 35% of global agricultural land depend entirely or in part on animal pollination. #Pollinators contribute directly to #foodsecurity and are key to conserving biodiversity. go.usa.gov/x6mAU

Chipmunks become inactive (dormant) and sleep part of the winter. Their body temperatures go down, but not as much as those of true hibernators. Chipmunks may come out during mild weather or wake up and munch on some of their stored food. #WildlifeWednesday

Did you know quills aren't the porcupine's only defense against predators? They also stink! They don't spray their odor, but it does get stronger when they feel threatened. People describe it as smelling like bad human body odor. Photo: Heidi Schuyt at Buffalo Lake NWR in TX.
