Eighty years ago, Germany surrendered to the Allies, bringing the war to an end in Europe. Our victory would not have been assured without the millions of Americans who answered the call to serve their country, and we owe a debt of gratitude to our World War II veterans.

The atrocities committed by the Nazi regime are a terrible and powerful reminder of what can happen when we allow hate and prejudice to proliferate. On this, the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, we honor the memories of the six million Jewish people who were killed and the many other countless victims with the promise that we will #NeverForget and #NeverAgain.
