John Horgan was a passionate advocate for the people of British Columbia and was deeply committed to public service even at times of great personal challenges. I am grateful for his seva.

John Horgan spent most of his adult life devoted to public service. His was a down to earth and reliable voice in support of BC’s working people - always focused on standing up for regular folks. It was these values and a likeable authenticity that earned him the top job in BC, making him the first NDP premier to be elected to two terms in office in BC. Of course we had a couple of disagreements, but John was always determined to do what he believed to be the very best for the people of British Columbia. He went on to lead his province through multiple unprecedented emergencies with a steady hand. BC has lost a very important person today. My thoughts go out to his family, his friends, and his colleagues.

Moving forward with the Green Line is an essential investment in Calgary’s future as a world-class city within a world-class province. Not only will the project create 20,000 jobs, it will carry 65,000 riders per day, bringing accessible transportation to so many people that need it. Calgarians need better public transportation to get around the city safely and quickly, yet they have been stuck waiting for the Green Line for nearly 40 years. Bottom line — this project won’t get any cheaper as time goes on, yet the UCP government continues to cause unnecessary delays on the Green Line, increasing the costs of this project even more. The Green Line is absolutely required. This project is a win-win for the province, yet the UCP would rather score cheap political points than give Calgarians and Albertans what they need.

This is so horrifying for all the residents of Jasper, and all those who were evacuated in such emergent circumstances. This is also horrifying for the literally hundreds of thousands of Albertans who share decades of joyful memories in this special special place. No matter what, Albertan will be there for Jasper.
All of our thoughts are with our fellow Albertans and visitors evacuated from Jasper National Park. At times like this, I am deeply grateful that we live in a place where first responders and public servants are always there to protect us. Thank you for everything. And for those evacuated and directly affected by the fires, please know your community is there to support you no matter what. Please keep up with official channels and follow all directions. Let’s keep everyone safe and get folks home as soon as possible.

.@ABDanielleSmith Albertans contribute to this long awaited national dental plan, but because of spite for Ottawa, you prevent Alberta seniors from receiving this medical care. I helped a senior apply for this program. She was thrilled to be approved. You’re deplorable. #ableg
“Alberta intends to opt out of the federal plan and maintain its provincial programs for Albertans.” - Premier Danielle Smith refusing dental coverage for Albertans who need it most because spite. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli edmonton.ctvnews.ca/smith-te…

If the Police Commission doesn’t feel safe, imagine how students, faculty and the homeless feel.
The police leadership need to have some tough conversations about what being unsafe is or is not. Being criticized does not make you unsafe. Marginalizing members of the public as "protesters" and dismissing their criticisms as a threat is systemic racism when not applied =ly.

Can’t believe that for a sec, I thought @UAlberta wouldn’t dare stoop as low as the UofC but here they are deploying fully armed riot police and teargas on peaceful students protesting a genocide at 5am. Shame on @BillFlanagan. Shame on #yegcc for funding this. #StudentIntifada

Once again, @UAlberta is willing to throw its students, staff, and faculty to the wolves rather than say the word 'Palestine'. Shame! Shame! Shame! UAlberta: Disclose! Divest! We will not stop we will not rest! /end/

Early this morning #UAlberta called in Edmonton Police to violently clear an entirely peaceful and beautifully communal encampment set up by students to demand that @UAlberta divest from companies complicit in Israeli apartheid and genocide. Shameful. 1/

Early this morning, the Edmonton Police used violence and force to sweep the encampments set up in support of Palestine at the U of A. I was there yesterday. I left feeling hopeful and inspired by the young activists. I’m disgusted and I’m angry. And I won’t be silent.
