Here's a number every creator and entrepreneur should know.
56% of creators surveyed in Patreon's 2025 State of Create report said social media algorithms prevented them from exploring their passions and interests.
78% said algorithms affected what they created.
Think about what that means.
We started creating because we had something to say.
Then we learned what the platforms rewarded.
Slowly, some of us started producing what performed rather than what mattered.
You create something and post it and it bombs.
You see another creator posting something else and it goes viral.
And so you modify and change your content.
And now AI can help us produce even more of it.
The machine helps us please the machine. But where does that leave the human?
I've spent 17 years building an audience online, and I'm finding the challenge of reinvention very real.
Here's what I'm experimenting with:
Use social platforms for discovery.
Build direct relationships through email and community.
Publish work that reflects the person you're becoming, not just the person people already know.
And measure meaningful responses, not just impressions.
The algorithm should be a distribution tool.
Not the author of your identity.
She might be lookin’ at you if you were in attendance. 😬
Let me tell y’all what happened to me today:
I found myself surrounded by “NC influencers” who were openly bashing people like me: conservatives.
They were talking about MAGA propaganda and being ugly about influencers who don’t share their views.
To these people, I’m a nobody. They have no clue that I have a large following elsewhere. They have no clue that I have a successful blog or podcast. They don’t know my views.
I about bit hole through my tongue as they made statement after statement that belittled more than half of North Carolina’s population.
Even worse? The vast majority of them ain’t actually North Carolinians. They just cosplay them for internet fame. And one of them ripped off my byline several years ago.
Now I’m not going to call any of them out. I could. But I won’t.
Here’s what I will say though - when you follow an influencer, you’re helping them make money. Especially mega influencers who have brand deals or work with local tourist commissions.
A lot of y’all? You’re following folks who think you’re trash and you’re putting big bucks in their pocket while you’re doing it.
And to all the influencers out there: maybe check the room before you flap your DSLs. Believe it or not, we haven’t all sold our souls to the socialist gods.

On July 16, 1970, upwards of 200,000 hippies, music fans, and bikers descended upon Love Valley in the Brushy Mountains for what became known as the South’s Woodstock.
The town of Love Valley didn’t have the infrastructure for that kind of crowd - and yet, it wasn’t a disaster. There was no violence.
It’s kind of hard to imagine a peaceful gathering like that in North Carolina today.
Want to know about the music festival that shook the foothills? I wrote about it on the blog today. The link is down in the comments.
After you read it, let me know: were you there? How about your parents? 👀

Y’all, why in the world am I even on X?
I’m here to shake up my fellow North Carolinians and bring some much-needed awareness to what’s happening in our beautiful state.
I’m here to pull us together like a big ol’ Sunday dinner table because Lord knows we need it.
Republicans, Conservatives, Libertarians, and Independents — listen up, buttercups!
We’ve got to quit fussin’ and fightin’ amongst ourselves and UNITE.
It amazes me to no end that the Democrats here in North Carolina can lock arms, sing Kumbaya, and march together like a well-oiled machine… but we can’t seem to get our act together?
Bless their hearts, they’re organized, and we’re out here actin’ like cats in a room full of rocking chairs.
North Carolina is too special to keep losin’ ground because we’re too stubborn to stand shoulder-to-shoulder.
Our values, our freedoms, our way of life — they’re worth fightin’ for, y’all!
So if you’re from North Carolina, drop a comment below, follow each other, and let’s start buildin’ this network right now.
Tag your friends, share this, and let’s show ‘em what real Tar Heel unity looks like.
Time to put the petty aside and fight for our state like our future depends on it — because it does.
Who’s with me, North Carolina? Let’s make some noise! 🇺🇸💪

Here’s our case that the Agriculture Department has the funds to keep SNAP going, but is choosing not to use them.
(We're in court today.)
It boils down to one thing:
The Agriculture Department is falsely claiming it cannot use its $6b emergency fund to prevent SNAP from shutting down.
Yes, the government is in a shutdown - and yes, the emergency fund would eventually run out if this continues.
But right now, the Department has $6 billion in emergency reserves sitting untouched, and that’s the reason SNAP payments are about to stop.
The Department is claiming they can’t use their emergency fund for this, but we know that is false for three reasons:
1. In creating the emergency fund, Congress was very clear: the fund is for use “in such amounts and at such times as may become necessary to carry out program operations.”
2. During the last shutdown, in January 2019, the Department said they could use the emergency fund for SNAP, stating that “limited funding is available from the contingency [fund] that can be used to provide benefits for February. This reserve is being used to fund recertifications and new applications through February.”
3. About a month ago, the Department published a plan for how they’d deal with a government shutdown, and explicitly said they could tap the emergency fund if needed. Read their words for yourself:
"Congressional intent is evident that SNAP’s operations should continue since the program has been provided with multi-year contingency funds that can be used for State Administrative Expenses to ensure that the State can also continue operations during a Federal Government shutdown. These multi-year contingency funds are also available to fund participant benefits in the event that a lapse occurs in the middle of the fiscal year."
But now - with less than one week’s notice - the Department has reversed itself and decided to let the $6 billion emergency fund sit on the shelf.
So let's be clear: the Agriculture Department has the money, and they can use it to keep SNAP going. Their assertion to the contrary is simply false.
That’s the basis of our lawsuit, and our first hearing - requesting an immediate order to provide the funds - is today.
However, even if we win, it is certainly true that these emergency funds wouldn’t last long. They should be used immediately to prevent a hunger crisis for about 16 million kids - and 1.7 million babies - but the shutdown must end quickly or SNAP really will run out of money and the crisis will be unavoidable at that point.
That’s the latest. More soon.

BREAKING: George Griffin, the @CHCCS board president, BRAGS about how his school district is DEFYING state law and refusing to comply with North Carolina’s Parent Rights Bill, calling the bill “discriminatory.”
The Bill, SB 49, guarantees parents the right to opt out of gender ideology propaganda lessons, allows parents to review school textbooks, and gives parents access to their child’s records.
This board wants to be able to hide critical information from parents and prevent them from vetting school curriculums.
This must be investigated @MoGreenNCDPI @ncpublicschools @usedgov @NCAGO
Heads up
HOLY SHIT: Chad Turner, the President of LGBTQ activist org @CLGBTCC and convicted CHILD SEX OFFENDER, is a sponsor for a "family friendly" Pride Festival in NC.
.@unioncopride is allowing a child s*x offender to help organize and sponsor a Pride event for children.

9 of the Top 20 Senators who cashed the most money from Big Pharma in 2024 are Republicans:
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN): $316,656
Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA): $290,375
Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY): $204,761
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC): $131,955
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX): $101,621
Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID): $97,882
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC): $79,906
Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS): $74,875
Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL): $70,924
This is JUST LAST YEAR ALONE.
Democrats’ anti-RFK Jr. ad campaigns are targeting Cassidy, McConnell (who voted no on Hegseth), Murkowski & Collins (who voted yes on Biden’s transgender HHS creep Rachel Levine), John Curtis of UT & Mike Rounds of SD, Tillis, & Joni Ernst (who threatened to torpedo Hegseth until we reliably informed her she’d lose her seat faster than she could vote no if she did that).
MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD.
This is going to be all out war between Big Pharma and you.
Tell your stories. Vaccine injuries. Gaslighting. Pediatricians firing you. Autoimmune disorders. Autism. ADHD. Allergies. Obesity. Infertility. Cancer.
Harness that feeling of elated hope that buoyed your soul when RFK Jr. endorsed Trump, when they shook hands on stage and married MAGA & MAHA.
Big Pharma is a $600B industry in the U.S., profiting off hurting you & keeping you sick.
RFK Jr. is our last chance to save ourselves from Big Pharma’s choking, abusive grip.
Bobby says he prayed to God begging God to give him the chance to save our children from the chronic disease epidemic.
Pharma is going to pull out all their dirty, nasty tricks to derail RFK Jr.’s confirmation to HHS Secretary.
The secret weapon to defeat this monstrosity is you. Your voice. Your stories. Your strength. Your willingness to inform your Senator in no uncertain terms that he or she will be politically destroyed if they dare vote against RFK Jr.
Call. Email. Tag your Senator on X.
Do it now. As loud as you can.
Demand your Senator vote to confirm RFK Jr. as HHS Secretary.
We must Make America Healthy Again.

Good morning, North Carolina! A new podcast is up this morning. I was joined by the strategic communications advisor of the LPNC to discuss Robert Doughton and his policies.
Doughton was a prominent NC politician in the early to mid-1900s who had his hands in everything from the ban of marijuana to the creation of the ABC.
The impacts of his career are still heavily felt in NC today.
I’ve dropped the link down in the comments. Enjoy! 🤗
Absolutely love this!
