The ducks were dropped off the bridge and then started drifting away from the finish line, so the organisers have moved the finish line to the other side. Much to the amusement of the spectators!

@CRTContactUs @CRTNorthWest A passing boater told us this bridge was closed two days ago. There is still no stoppage notice for a broken asset after 48 hours on what is likely to be the busiest boating weekend of the year. It's simply not acceptable communication.

Thanks to the local-ish team we got through after just over an hour. A chap from Litherland and a chap from Wiga drove out to operate the bridge for us, so massive thanks to them, but I'm sure a timely communication would have been cheaper than two vans driving 20 miles each ...

Yes, I have called the out of hours number and someone is supposed to be coming to operate the bridge. That'll do for me today, but the lack of communication with customers is simply not good enough. Why can't the local team on call issue stoppage notices?

Wigan Top Lock Services, the bollard directly in front of the waterpoint. It's not just a scrape, there is a void underneath it and it's right where you'd want to stand if tying up at the services. @CRTNorthWest @CRTContactUs

@CRTContactUs @CRTNorthWest @CRTBoating Why can't we book a Bridgewater Canal passage for today, only tomorrow? Customer services claim all bookings need at least 24 hours notice, which is nonsense as my last few bookings have been possible to make on the day of the journey.

It's a purely administrative booking, so there's no action needed by staff who would need advanced notice.

We are very grateful it wasn't our toddler (who was in the boat at the time) that got damaged. We are much less pleased the vollie in question argued about it. We are usually very pleased to see a blue sweatshirt, a red lifejacket and a smiling face ...
