A thought provoking presentation from Camilla Smith on a social justice perspective in languages education starting from an acknowledged political position. The example of an environmental theme embedding grammar illustrated what can be done in the classroom

A syllabus may mention social equality but if it is organised by grammar rather than social equality the syllabus may be thin on social justice issues Examples of how a theme of colonialism can integrate a focus on both social justice issues and grammar. Thank you Joe

The plenary session before lunch was positively noisy with professional exchanges of ideas on the tables. Great energy in the room. Feels like the delegates are ready for lunch.

What hooked you into languages? This question asked at the start by @charlotteryland @missclaro created an excited buzz in the room Some great examples from the Young Translators & the acknowledgement that creativity is an issue of social justice

Thank you @coffeysimon a rich and multi-layered picture of who we are as language people The exciting ways this can be realised with learners, such illustrating names as an autobiographical expression of social identities And the structural issues we need to address

Hugely important APPG ML meeting this week on Languages Teacher Recruitment with views from @ALL4language, teacher trainers and young trainee/early career teachers. So many obstacles in the way of effective recruitment - only 43% of target reached this year! 1/3
