“If we do not have helium, we'll have to shut down,” says Surya Iyer, president and COO of Polar Semiconductors.
The semiconductor industry consumes one-fifth of the world’s helium to make chips used in everything from smartphones to pacemakers. Now, that helium is in short supply. cbsn.ws/4k2lvzM

These are the cryogenically cooled superconducting accelerator units used in the LCLS-II beam currently being upgraded at SLAC. Many people assume the big pipe is the core, but that's just the helium gas return line.
The sealed pipe with the pink cover is the beam.
These sections are built elsewhere and delivered for integration into the beamline. The helium comes in at 2K as a liquid and returns as a low pressure gas.
The whole thing is in a vacuum, there's MLI around the inside of the pressure vessel followed my a medal shield and then the rest of the hardware is suspended inside minimizing the amount of support material that would conduct heat in from the surface.
Gases and cryogenic equipment are embedded in the aerospace sector, and for industrial gas majors, the space industry increasingly represents a key… www.gasworld.com/story/how-the-industrial-gas-majors-view-the-space-opportunity/2261520.article/ #gasworld #industrialgas

Canada has what the world wants - and the numbers prove it. As of September 2026, Canadian mining companies are the world's most valuable, with $488B in combined market value.
We're building that value through strategic investments, regulatory reform, new tax incentives for business investment, and cooperation with allies on stronger, more secure minerals supply chains.
Proud to be from the world's best mining nation 🇨🇦

Everyone's talking about Saskatchewan.
A place where food, fuel, fertilizer and critical minerals are abundant. Where businesses can grow, invest and reach global markets.
It's time to be part of the conversation.

One of the biggest engineering challenges in fusion isn't creating the heat. It's managing it.
Here, ORNL fusion engineer Cody Wiggins inspects the Helium Flow Loop Experiment, where high-pressure helium is used to test cooling strategies for future fusion energy systems.

The @valaratomics plan calls for 456 helium cooled reactors on about 9,000 acres near Price, Utah to power AI data centers. That's 9.6 gigawatts, more than double what Utah generates on average. The state already approved a 640 acre lease and the first reactors are targeted for 2028. Great topic for @techimpactTV
