No, it's not fancy. No, it's not big. But I've worked stations around the world from the sleeper of my truck! Last summer I made Worked All States Digital on 20 meters from our yard in Las Vegas, just working FT8 on weekends.The dual band mobile mounted beside the CB is a Yaesu FTM-150r. When I first passed my FCC exam to get my Technician license (General Theory Test, but 5wpm CW test), I was a resident of Utah. This was back in 1983, and I was 13 years old. We had to travel down to Long Beach, which was the closest FCC office, and take the test in person, in front of a FCC official.
When I upgraded to my General class, it was the same story. Down to Long Beach and take the 13wpm code test up upgrade.
There was a 6 WEEK(!) wait to get your new or upgraded license in the mail.
Fast forward to now. Friday evening, I took my Amateur Extra upgrade, remotely in my truck on an offramp in Wyoming. Overnight (Friday night) the FCC updated my record and sent me a email notification with a link to download the new license. All within 6 hours of starting the exam. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio
A quick visit to the McCall Lawn Dart Base! Last week, I made a fuel delivery to the colorful K-Max staged at the McCall, ID Helibase. Right next door is the Smokejumper base. I was able to get a couple of aircraft pictures, including one of "Jumper 43," which is the Smokejumper plane.

So, I've spent the last two days at a Kenworth dealership in Abilene, Texas. Early yesterday evening they finally figured out what the problem was, and hopefully mitigated it. Since I cannot leave until they open their gates this morning, I set up my 30 meter vertical antenna and made several contacts last night and this morning. I made contacts in 24 countries, and 15 states. Europe last night, and eastern Asia this morning. But, now it's time to take the antenna down, roll up the coax, and continue on down the road. #hamradio #amateurradio
