The Durgama cave sits at the entrance to the Pura Dalem (meaning a temple associated with death and cremation) in Ubud Monkey Forest.
Here, she also protects those in the cemetery (Balinese Hindu cremation ceremonies are conducted every 5 or so years so temporary burials take place until the cremation ceremony).
The Balinese frog dance tells the story of a young prince who is out catching fireflies in the forest. Angering the god Siwa, he turns the young prince into a frog. His betrothed princess still recognizes the prince underneath the frog skin and agrees to still marry him.
The prince, however, decides his beloved deserves better than a frog husband and sets off to find Siwa to beg him to return him to his princely form. Siwa first attempts to eat the prince, but upon remembering their meeting takes pity and restores him to human form.
Returning to his princess she does not believe he is her prince, until Siwa shows up with the frog face to assure her. This part of the dance is the moment where Siwa reveals the frog face to the prince and princess kneeling before him. #mythology #mythological #fairytale
