Whilst this is as nauseating as it is insidious, I hope all Australians understand this is ‘par for the course’ for all political parties – all the way down to their rank and file, branch levels.
But what may stick in Australians craw is twofold:
1. Is there a tenable link between the existence of this file and yesterday’s incident?
If so, I anticipate the Governor General (no matter how conflicted she otherwise may be) stepping in and calling a double dissolution of parliament.
The ALP will lose both houses.
2. What proportion of the 59 staff within the DPM&C has been expended to this activity, as opposed to more appropriate matters of state?
If this does not bring down a government from within, nothing does.
