Powerful roundtable on the future of surgical data, research & collaboration across Africa. 🌍❤️🫀 We affirmed COSECSA’s vital role and the urgent need to strengthen databases that truly reflect African patients’ realities and outcomes. Reliable, locally relevant data = better understanding, smarter decisions, and sustainable cardiac & surgical care across the continent. #SurgicalData #inafricaforafrica @EACTS @ctsnetorg @STS_CTsurgery @cosecsa

Just three days to go until ‘In Africa for Africa’ begins in Cape Town! Hear from Emily Farkas, President of the Cardiac Surgery Intersociety Alliance (CSIA), as she shares the vision behind this landmark EACTS/STS/CSIA Cardio-Thoracic Conference. The meeting is centred on African leadership and supported by global collaboration. It will address the real challenges of providing cardiothoracic care across Africa and explore practical solutions that can make a lasting impact. Over 100 scholarship recipients from almost 20 African countries will join international faculty in Cape Town, creating opportunities to exchange ideas, build new collaborations and form partnerships that continue beyond the event. 📍 Cape Town, South Africa 📅 4-6 September 2026 We look forward to welcoming you and celebrating the spirit of ‘In Africa for Africa’ together.

In collaboration w/@MutemaMD's team, they performed 7 cases in 5 days, including the hospital’s first mitral valve repairs. A major focus of the trip was ensuring the team would be able to perform such operations in the future to increase capacity & access for patients in Zambia.

It was a pleasure to be back in Zambia for our 3rd annual mission and teach more complex valve surgery including the first mitral repair at National Heart Hospital and perhaps in Zambia! The local team every year makes incredible progress to help the citizens of Zambia.

Major gratitude @worldheartfed for invitation to discuss access to #GlobalCardiacSurgery at the #RHDCongress. 6 billion people lack access to safe, timely, & affordable cardiac surgical care. This includes the 40+ MILLION people living with #RHD–a neglected disease of poverty.
