Small-batch pharmaceutical production shouldn't automatically mean high costs and long waits. Note: Clinical trials, specialised therapies, and emerging treatments don't always need massive production runs. The real challenge is building manufacturing systems flexible enough to serve those needs without sacrificing quality.

Automating one task doesn't make an entire factory smarter. Real progress means connecting equipment, processes, and data while keeping quality and human oversight in focus.

Pharmaceutical manufacturing needs a new approach, and I believe Mustard Biopharma can help make it happen.

In high-stakes biotech, timeline compression is everything. The new #PDUFA deal injects vital capital into the FDA to expand its reviewer pool, directly tackling the industry's biggest bottleneck. True velocity requires both agile manufacturing and a properly resourced regulatory infrastructure. At Mustard Biopharma, we operate at this intersection. When federal regulatory capacity scales alongside tech innovation, the entire pipeline stabilizes.

A question for people working in pharma manufacturing: Where do you see the biggest disconnect today? Equipment? Production planning? Quality systems? Manufacturing data? We are building in this space, and we think the answers matter to us.

Automation isn't a crime. But working with disconnected systems in 2026 is. Biopharma deserves software that connects its equipment, data, and processes. That's why we're building Factory OS.

Building in biopharma teaches you quickly that a good idea isn't enough. You have to work with real equipment, real processes, quality requirements, and all the details that don't fit neatly into a pitch deck. That's where ideas meet reality. And that's where we are learning as we build Factory OS.

Not every medicine needs the same manufacturing setup. Some need enormous production volumes. Others are needed in small batches, for specialised treatments or clinical trials. Why should one manufacturing model have to serve every need? Flexibility deserves a bigger place in pharma.

The biotech pipeline moves at the speed of software, but manufacturing remains stuck in the past. Iambic Therapeutics just secured a $150M IPO to advance its AI-driven cancer pipeline. It proves the immense value of using AI for drug discovery. But it highlights a massive bottleneck 👇 #Biopharma #AI

The goal isn't to put a robot in every corner of a pharmaceutical factory. Instead, it's to make manufacturing more coordinated, more visible and, where possible, more flexible. That's why we are working on Factory OS and exploring modular pharmaceutical manufacturing through Mustard-Pod. We are early in the journey, and still have hard engineering and validation questions to solve. But we think the manufacturing layer deserves a rethink.

Pharmaceutical manufacturing is becoming a bigger part of the conversation. A recent Reuters report highlighted how drugmakers are investing in US manufacturing and supply chains amid growing policy uncertainty. This raises an important question: how do we make pharmaceutical supply chains more resilient, flexible, and prepared for disruption? Building more factories is part of the answer. Rethinking how those factories operate and how manufacturing capacity can be distributed is another. At Mustard Biopharma, this is the challenge we are working on: building software to help coordinate pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment, processes, and data more intelligently. Because producing medicines reliably requires more than capacity. It requires a manufacturing system built to work together.

A new pharmaceutical factory is a major investment. But the bigger question is what happens inside it. Can equipment, data, quality systems, and production workflows operate as one coordinated system? Building more capacity matters. Making that capacity work smarter matters too. That’s the problem we are exploring @MustardBio

Unpopular opinion: The most impressive pharmaceutical factory won't necessarily be the one with the most machines. It might be the one where the machines, software, people, and processes actually understand what the others are doing. More hardware isn't always the answer. But better coordination might be.

Biopharma deserves software that connects its systems, equipment, and processes instead of leaving them to operate in silos. Automation isn't a crime. But relying on systems built for another era in 2026? That's a different story. @MustardBio, we are building Factory OS to help bring pharmaceutical manufacturing into a more connected, software-driven era.

Imagine you're responsible for manufacturing a medicine. One piece of equipment reports a problem; the production parameter needs attention, and the next step depends on whether the current process is within its approved limits. In this situation, what should the system do? Stop? Alert an operator? Or gather more information? In pharmaceutical manufacturing, these aren't just software decisions. They carry quality and safety implications. @MustardBio, we are interested in how to build systems that handle them responsibly.

There are things about pharmaceutical manufacturing we are still figuring out. How much should be automated? Where should a human always remain in control? How do you validate software that is making operational decisions? How do different pieces of equipment communicate reliably? How do you build flexibility without compromising consistency? We are not pretending these are easy questions. But we are building @MustardBio because we think these questions are worth answering.

China just published its Five-Year Plan for biopharma. Buried inside is a major takeaway: a clear call to build shared manufacturing capabilities to lower the barrier to tech derisking. A national government just admitted that manufacturing infrastructure is the bottleneck standing between innovation and impact. Meanwhile, the US and Europe still import roughly 65% of the medicines they consume. New Western CDMOs keep launching under the banner of "resilience," but they just build the same old traditional batch capacity. China isn't waiting for manufacturing to catch up to its science. They are building the infrastructure on purpose, as policy, alongside the science. That’s the gap @MustardBio exists to close. Not more of the same capacity, but a faster, software-defined way to build it.

There is something strange about pharmaceutical manufacturing. Sometimes the medicine that matters most may be needed by relatively few people. Like a rare disease, a small patient population, and a clinical trial in a specific location. But the infrastructure used to manufacture medicines has often been designed around scale. Then, we keep asking: What if manufacturing could become more flexible too? That question is behind a lot of our work at @MustardBio.
