I think changing how we think of the students “coming prepared” will help a lot. I have found so much success in my teaching over the years by asking inspired questions.
How does those ideas relate?
The students have lives and experiences, thoughts and worries. The stories relate to those. By asking good questions we can help the students recognize the connections.
When that happens they open their hearts and start to participate. The spirit loves being there for that!

I don’t believe we fully understand one of Christ’s most profound teachings.
“The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath.”
Why did Jesus intentionally heal on the Sabbath in front of the Pharisees?
Why did He allow His disciples to pluck grain when He knew they would be criticized?
He wasn’t dismissing the Sabbath.
He was revealing something about the human heart.
The Pharisees looked at outward behavior and believed they understood a person’s standing before God.
Jesus went deeper. He was trying to teach us something higher and holier.
He wasn’t just teaching about the Sabbath. He was teaching us how God sees people.
I wonder if we still struggle with the same temptation.
In a world of sound bites, opinions and certainty, we love simple explanations for why someone “doesn’t keep the Sabbath day holy” or whatever your “sabbath day” might be. Fill in the blank…
Regarding activity in the Church, we convince ourselves we know why someone stays active or why someone leaves.
But people’s hearts are rarely that simple.
We sometimes mistake activity for discipleship, appearance for devotion, and outward conformity for the condition of the heart.
Someone can attend every meeting while their heart is far from Christ.
Someone else may no longer attend and still be sincerely seeking Him.
Only God knows the heart.
Please don’t misunderstand me. We need the Church! Covenants matter. The Sabbath and God’s commandments matter.
But God gave His commandments to bring us to Him, not to give us permission to measure one another.
Even Jesus was accused of breaking the Sabbath by people who believed they could determine righteousness through outward observance.
Perhaps we should be more careful before deciding we know why someone stays active in the Church or leaves. Or why someone struggles with the Sabbath or any other commandments.
The lesson of the Sabbath was never just about the Sabbath.
It was about learning to see people the way Christ sees them.

Why is it normal for young people to dress in robes, sit apart from family, receive formal instruction, wear square hats modeled after a mason’s mortarboard, line up ceremonially, ascend to a stage, receive hand grasps, and then return with a new status and identity...
But a similar temple ritual is “cultish”?
Society normalizes theatrical rituals of academia because it is secular.
But mock the temple.
Hugh Nibley once called graduation robes the “black robes of a false priesthood,” a medieval, worldly imitation that celebrates human ambition instead of divine truth.
Perhaps temple worship isn't strange?
Maybe modern people only respect ritual when God has been removed from it.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a system for creating great people who form great relationships.
At the heart of those relationships, are the ones we formalize through priesthood ordinances. Covenants are formalized relationships. When we form covenants with Jesus Christ and keep our end of the contract he rewards us by inviting us into his presence by teaching us to become like him.
That’s the Gospel.
Any nation that allows this will see the devastating consequences throughout their entire society.
This is what the country most needs.
Power doesn’t corrupt — power attracts corruption. The more power is centralized the more corrupt people will do to obtain it and the more power it has to reveal the corruption in one’s soul.
James Madison described the powers of the federal government as “few and defined” and those reserved to the states as “numerous and indefinite.”
We’ve been dangerously drifting from that understanding since the 1930s.
The drift has been most evident in areas now most fraught with waste, fraud, and abuse.
If we honored the Constitution’s limits on federal power, there’d be very little waste, fraud, and abuse in our national government.
Share if you’d like to see a “constitutional reset,” in which any government function that’s not obviously and necessarily federal under the Constitution would be returned “to the states respectively, or to the people,” as the Tenth Amendment specifies.
Deuteronomy lays out clearly the pattern of apostasy. This line from Moses could easily be spoken by the apostles before their deaths:
“For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the Lord; and how much more after my death?” 31:27
We saw the epistles that the apostles sent to try and keep sound doctrine, but they tried to expand too quickly and were killed and so the sound doctrine didn’t last.
The true Church of Jesus Christ fled into the wilderness after the dragon tried to will it, see revelations.
It’s a constant pattern in scripture.

I'm not Catholic, but this is still revolting to me.
Do not do this.
This is abhorrent behavior and disrespectful to the most righteous woman ever born.
In light of recent events I think resharing this prophetic dream I had is in order:
I feel like sharing a dream I had many years ago. It occurred before my mission in Korea so at least 15 years ago, but I still remember it clearly.
———
There was a large rectangular field, walled in by high walls. The field itself was green and grassy with a large multi-tiered water fountain at its center. On either side of the area were battlements as if they were sections of a castle wall.
I was seeing this as if watching from over the shoulder of a flying eagle. At first the eagle flew over one end of the arena and the battlement. In the center I saw a large Minotaur surrounded by a host of all kinds of loathsome and cruel beasts. They held banners and weapons. They were restless and staring angrily across the way at the other side of the battlement where the eagle then flew.
This other end contained a nearly identical view as the other. A large and armed Minotaur standing with a horde of foul creatures. If there was a difference in the banners or groups, it didn’t stand out to me.
The eagle then flew and perched on the top tier of the fountain in the center of the field.
I grew alarmed as the hordes on both ends of the field simultaneously rushed out of their forts. They both charged with rage and yelling towards the center of the field where the fountain stood. The clash would happen right on top of it and it surely would have been destroyed and desecrated.
The eagle did not leave, so I sat there as the armies approached ever closer. When they were only moments away, the ground fell out between them revealing ramps that slopped down into an area below the fountain. These ramps extended the entire length of the field, but left a thin strip of land running the entire center of the field.
The two armies didn’t seem to care or notice the change in scenery and ran full speed down the ramps and the battle commenced below the ground, out of my view.
I remained sitting safety on the fountain which also remained safe and untouched.
Then the dream ended.
———
The dream remained with me but didn’t have much meaning until more recently.
I have come to feel that the two camps are opposing extreme, base, and hateful groups. It could be the extremist in both parties, I’m not sure. These groups want to destroy each other and the fountain which represents the gospel truths, was going to be caught in the fray, although it wasn’t necessarily the target.
The evil forces met and it can be assumed that they trampled the grass everywhere they ran.
The only places that were spared from either being trampled or being at war were the fountain and the strips of land in the center of the field.
The left wing dogma largely hates us and portions of the right are turning on us as well. It’s time that members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints start to establish ourselves.
We’ll carve a place in society that is explicitly build on the principles of Zion and it’s gonna be awesome!
All will be welcome if they can abide by the standards of a Zion people!

After everything that Disney has done to the Star Wars brand... this music still hits me in the feels.
Currently watching @StayOnWatch Live, and I have a diagram about the masculine and feminie that I want to share with the guys. I think that they would find it fascinating.
