Opinion: Do I Know Very Little About Something but Have Decided that Makes Me Correct Compared to People Who Have Studied this Rigorously for Years? Yes.
My wife just endured a 40+ min lockdown at her school where she teaches. Everyone is ok, no safety threat. But she and her students barricaded their classroom and everything. Had no idea what was happening.
Everyone is traumatized. This is not freedom. This is a tyranny of guns
It was a false alarm. The system was accidentally triggered.
The fear, anxiety, and trauma that everyone endured was very real
It is a real shame that we’ve gotten to a point in higher Ed where students feel they need to share extremely personal information to get an extension or leeway from a prof. A student should be able to say “a health issue came up…” and not have to tell you more
This semester I am a co-adjunct teacher for @RutgersArts #online, not a member of a union nor protected by them. But I stand in full solidarity with the thousands who are going on #strike today. Let us know how we can help, even if we live many states away @ruaaup_ptl @ruaaup
Seeing many of the people who got jobs my first year on the market now getting tenure. I am VERY HAPPY for those of you still in it. Also…lots of feels…of many different kinds. Still, very proud for all of y’all out there doin the grind

Having now worked outside academia for 2 years and observing non-academic job markets, it is WILD to me that we all apply for literally hundreds of academic jobs that don’t advertise the salary
Today I went to a “local” (less than an hour from where I live) college library and got borrowing privileges and I instantly feel 100x more ready to do musicological work. Thanks Amherst College for making me feel like a scholar again.
