The reason: Thomas Massie forced a privileged resolution that would've put every Republican on record on impeaching Hegseth for defying Congress during the Iran war, with a floor vote required within two legislative days — landing Thursday. So instead of letting his own members vote, Johnson shut down Congress. Not because there's no case — eight articles of impeachment, filed on the floor, over a war Hegseth waged without going through Congress. Because there's a case, and they know it. Every time accountability gets close, they don't debate it — they turn the lights off and go home. Seven weeks before the midterms, the Speaker of the House would rather stop Congress from functioning than let his party answer for a defense secretary who won't answer to anyone. It’s time to make them pay at the ballot box. Then they can stay home full-time.
