This is great. Pickleball and data centers are the key issues to discuss.
Someone made a site that tracks what people are talking about at public city council meetings across the US. The only thing discussed more than data centers? Pickleball courts.

So happy to see the palisades coming back to life! There is till a long way to go, but every step in the right direction is something to celebrate!

He is a beast!
Since pitches were first tracked in 1988, Yoshinobu Yamamoto is the only MLB pitcher to have a postseason start on the road with: 7.0+ innings pitched 10+ strikeouts no more than 1 walk under 100 pitches

Wow! Amazing
Yoshinobu Yamamoto is 33-0 (including the postseason) with at least three runs of support. What an incredible stat for the Dodgers' ace.

Gas powered cars fall below 50% globally for the first time. That is amazing.
Gas-powered cars are now under 50% of global new-vehicle sales: First time ever. Share sits at 49%, down from 73% in 2021, according to Mobility Global Data. Here in the U.S., we're seeing a slightly different situation, with gas cars regaining some traction after federal incentives went away. But wild to see a first like that globally. It’s back-to-school time, and Deloitte’s 2026 Back-to-School Survey found that the average spend per child on school supplies is $557 - unchanged from last year. But the hunt for lower prices is increasingly being powered by AI. 61% of back-to-school shoppers say they’ve used AI-powered shopping tools this year to compare prices, find discounts, and get recommendations. At Murphy Research, we dig beyond what consumers are buying to understand what’s driving their decisions. See more back-to-school trends at MurphyResearch.com.

This is so intuitive but also I can see how much of a dilemma this will be for students and teachers. It is a new form of procrastination. It is so tempting to get the assignment done quickly and then just cram for the exam.
Every college syllabus should include these graphs. Use AI for homework, you will get it done faster and get a higher grade, and then get crushed on the exam.

It’s funny how everyone expects AI to take their jobs when we still haven’t figured out how to make universal remotes work

This is pretty amazing! Love the ambition!
Stripe's new frontpage shows the scope of their ambition. A ticker for percent of global GDP! This is not a gimmick. Patrick and John have always thought in these terms.

This is so sad. The city of Santa Monica continues to pursue ridiculous ineffective policies driving away amazing businesses like Blue Plate.
Blue Plate Oysterette announces it will be closing in Santa Monica. They report lack of support from the city on homless and safety issues. Santa Monica is not small businesses friendly. How many more will we lose? We need leadership change asap.

This is a fantastic thread and a very important topic. As someone who spent years working in mental hospitals the way we have chosen as a society to let mentally ill people suffer in the streets until they end up in prison just makes me incredibly sad. We need to change this asap
1/ This chart has been making the rounds lately, and since I am an American and have both worked in a mental hospital and been a criminal defense lawyer, I have opinions. The idea that insane people belong in institutions came under 2-pronged attack in the 1950s and 1960s.

Self-driving cars will save millions of lives.
It seems like there is not enough of a policy response to the fact that, with 57M miles of data, Waymo’s autonomous vehicles experience 85% less serious injuries & 79% less injuries overall than cars with human drivers. 2.4 million are injured & 40k killed in US accidents a year
