Back from hosting a hackathon, fixed the limits on the waitlist 🤦♂️
Thought to make a first demo trying out Spanish, since I already know some Norwegian. Watch me struggle straight into a basic conversation on day 1 😃
mural.chat it’s open-source, and i’ll get it on the app store when our Apple overlords approve
Based on popular demand, I've updated @Muralchat with:
- Russian and Dutch language support
- Added swipeable flashcards to practice learned words
- Made the captions autoscroll so the UI stays clean even on loooong captions
Available on Apple Testflight and Google Play Store. lmk in the comments and I'll send the testflight link.
Github URL is also updated, so feel free to run locally with your OpenAI key.
I appreciate any feedback in the comments or send me a dm.

Mural is live to test for iOS on Testflight.
shipped:
- learn Serbian, Greek and Tagalog. We thought to add these from feature requests and I think Greek would be nice
- added minor improvements for accent understanding, pacing first conversations and account support
- You can buy minutes if you don't have an API key from mural.chat
- conversations on iOS continue in the background even when your screen is off
Thanks to all the PR contributors. It's a bit hard to carefully review everything with most PRs coming in with 50+ files changed. makes me wonder if OSS is now about strong 'token and ideas/issues contribution' towards a common goal
Still working on an official Appstore release. it's interesting to learn various AI app restrictions that exist atm. e.g chinese rules around the mention of 'OpenAI' for instance 😀

@Muralchat just had a fun 10 mins speaking Spanish! In order to replicate the usefulness of writing down new unfamiliar words: the “your words” screen could segue into a spaced repetition flashcard review?
Now available on the Google Playstore 🔥
Get the conversation and we'd love to hear what we should build next.
Thanks to all the contributors that made this happen. Legends fr 👏

Still waiting for our Cupertino overlords. Didn't know Apple approvals took this long, so while we wait, I appreciate any feedback.
Btw Gemini-3.8-flash live test hasn't been as cost effective for long conversations as I thought. Still testing and adding more language support. Waitlist still open here mural.chat
I deleted Duolingo with a 1100+ streak the day I passed basic Norwegian. Duolingo seems optimized to keep you in the app so you never actually learn a language enough to use it irl
Today I've finally made the language learning app I've always wanted and it's amazing! GPT-Live-1 to the rescue.
I basically wanted an app that's purely conversation focused, doesn't speak anything but the language you want to learn and progressively goes from 'hi', 'hola', 'salut' to more advanced vocabulary naturally, while keeping track of language level.
Imagine being thrown into a Colombian village and you have no option but to speak spanish. That's what this is.
No streak chasing, no learning unnecessary words I'll forget the instant a native speaker asks me a question. I don't even care about learning grammar structures as the inconsistencies and tons of rules never make sense to me anyway.
I just have actual conversations.
Keeping this one for myself, maybe I'll make it public someday.
