Ambitious partnership for reliable climate prediction yields fastest FV3 performance yet!A collaboration between @allen_ai,@cscsch& @CSatETH compiles the FV3 dynamical core, written entirely in Python,to run 3.9x faster on 2400 GPUs over production FORTRAN code.#SC22 👇paper:👇

This is the wave of the future. Mindless increase in FLOPS will decelerate significantly w/ end of Moore’s law & not many apps are compute bound in the first place. 3D won’t help in this regard. Reducing data movement energy will be the key to future speed up, and 3D will help.
Here’s @IanCutress on @AMD’s stacked 3D V-cache technology: 192 MB at 2TB/s We knew that AMD was going to be investing in TSMC’s 3D Fabric technology, but I guess we didn’t expect it to be this soon anandtech.com/show/16725/amd… #COMPUTEX2021

Something I explained to 9 yo on the way to school: When something is hard to predict, you can sometimes still solve the problem by designing a system that doesn't require accurate prediction. Early stage startup outcomes are hard to predict. YC's solution: fund a lot of them.

Thank you for the opportunity of covering our work on #Fugaku; it was a great interview. ‘Applications first’ was our design philosophy & it’s paying off. I also hope people liked the graphics on the machine, signifying Mt. Fuji as well as the dynamic screen projections.
"The No1 machine & well worth the cost," says @ProfMatsuoka - the brain behind Japan’s #supercomputer, being used to model #covid19 spread, tracing app efficacy & earthquake risk. (Plus has Word/PowerPoint!)

Scary stuff, and a stark reminder that it is up to all of us to ensure that the security technology we develop, and the trust people put into it, is not compromised. At least the proofs of #seL4 are public and reproducible, but reproducing them is essential!
In riddle story of Crypto AG, a Swiss company owned by the US spy agencies, that manufactured crypto devices ultimately used by most countries. The only question I have: why did the US spy agencies allow this to go public now? Who benefits from that?
