Sometimes you’ve got to step back and let the little ones figure it out on their own. You want to reach in, steady the ladder, hold the bike, tie the knot, fix the problem, and when they’re getting on a horse, you especially want to keep a hand close by. But there comes a time when they have to put that little boot in the stirrup, grab the saddle horn, swing up, and find their own balance.
