CDC Today: COVlD levels remain elevated and stable nationally, amid regional fluctuations. Recent values have been corrected upward, again, meaning late-breaking data are higher than real-time estimates. We have laws to govern pathogen research that Anthropic is also keen to regulate. Unlike their plan for their product, we don’t wait for a court order to maybe shut down unsafe work on a dangerous virus. It’s a federal crime to start it at all. It’s called safety, not “alignment”

The CDC has made repeated retroactive upward corrections to estimated SARS-CoV-2 levels each of the past several weeks. PMC estimates of transmission are now higher than the time period many refer to as #DuringCOVID, the first 3 waves.

Here is a reality check for you. Covid has not dropped much early this fall and, in fact, has gone back up again on the most recent CDC update. Flu is early this year. There is no lull in illness between the summer Covid wave and the winter Virus soup. Mask the heck up!

I tried to warn you.
I had heard of several more serious DKA episodes leading to hospitalisation, disability, and death since I last wrote about it in May, then this last week, I heard of two more. Let me tell you about one of them.

Hey it’s pretty cool how New Zealand/Australia is reporting H5N1 & also influenza A. That sounds familiar! A thread:
Laura Miers
@LauraMiers7 Feb 2025
As influenza A overwhelms hospitals, I don’t think people remember this... “As levels of the marker for influenza A viruses began to rise in early March, the markers for the H5 viruses began to rise in tandem. The concentration of the H5 gene in the samples was nearly as high as the concentration of the influenza A viruses overall, suggesting that a large fraction of the viruses in the samples were H5N1.” 🧵

And still the ocean peak is 3 months away. The peak on land will arrive a few months after that. The planet will never be the same. This Pacific buildup is a final warning.
Sure the El Niño regions straddling the equator are a record warmth for the time of year, but the extent of the record warmth bleeding into the subtropical east Pacific and associated with the +PMM is incredible. It's no wonder Hawaii is in the crosshairs of so many hurricanes.
