I went on a fantastic PD recently about world music pedagogy led by Dr Jennifer Walden. The take away for me was to remember to insert the words β€˜in western music’ or β€˜in this music’ into my teaching.

Replying to @sjeeves
@sjeeves has developed a scaffolded and progressive approach for KS3 through various aspects of #MusicalFutures that sits beautifully alongside more traditional elements of the music department. Fab lesson - now onto year 9 and some electronic music – at Pathum Wan, Thailand

It’s evolving and changing as people find a space and fill it. The change of synth sound changed the groove and people are building it each time the phrase repeats

This group took the instruction to choose something they haven’t played before to recreate a song by ear seriously and created this amazing performance! #TheBigGigBangkok #InformalLearning

I’ve always loved dipping into the #MusicalFutures Find Your Voice approaches because it can be done in a way where it’s not β€˜a singing project’ the singing just happens as tool for learning about chord progressions and mashing up melodies. Lovely to hear y7 singing in groups – at Pathum Wan, Thailand

We shared words for how it felt to jam together. Words like explore, fun, create, courage, connect. Then asked about choices. Teachers reflect on what they chose and why they played what they played. Really interesting responses. Now relating this to children doing the same
