MVFD members taught over 50 young people last weekend at the 2026 NorCal First Alarm Girls+ Fire Camp at the Hayward Regional Fire Training Center.
Young people are shown that they can have a career in the fire service by learning from women firefighters & hearing their stories.
Wind-driven rain will easily exploit dried-out seals & gaps around your home.
• Inspect Caulking: Check the exterior caulking around all window frames & door trims. Scrape away peeling caulk & re-seal with an exterior-grade, waterproof silicone.
The MVFD, MV Professional Firefighters Local 1965, and MV Firefighters Random Acts will be hosting their 19th Annual Firefighters Pancake Breakfast on Saturday at Fire Station No. 4 from 8 a.m.-noon.

When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments, and never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane.

Battery Safety Check: Lithium-ion batteries power our favorite tech, but wrong charging habits can spark fires!
Quick tips:
• Charge on hard, flat surfaces (no beds/couches)
• Stick to manufacturer-approved chargers
• Unplug when full
• Charge e-bikes & power tools outside
Schedule a Professional Roof Inspection
Even a small, unnoticeable roofing issue can turn into a major leak once heavy rains begin. A professional can spot issues that are difficult to see from the ground.
Focus on Shingle Health, Flashing Checks, and Trim Overhanging Branches
Unplug your device when it is fully charged. Leaving it plugged in longer than needed can increase heat and stress on the battery. For more info: fpw.org.

Fire Inspector Gena and Sparky stopped by the Mountain View Library outdoor Storytime to talk about battery safety!
Our #1 takeaway? Stick to the charger that came with your device! After-market cords can overheat and pose a real fire hazard. Keep it official, keep it safe!

Stop using your device right away if the battery smells strange, is warm to the touch, makes popping noises, changes in shape or color, or if you see smoke.
If it is safe, move the device away from anything that can catch fire. A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire.
Charge on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk, or floor. Beds, couches, and pillows can trap heat and block airflow, which can cause a battery to overheat. For more info: fpw.org.

Use the cord and charger that came with your device or ones
approved by the manufacturer. Using the wrong charger can
damage the battery and increase the risk of fire. For more info:
