Thrilled to share this preprint from my postdoc w/ @joannalkelley Studying Zoarcoidei, we detected gradients in antifreeze protein (AFP) copy number across habitat temperature and pressure driven by homologs translocated out of an ancestral AFP array biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

NOAA led State of the Climate 2023 report published in BAMS is out. The cover is a pair of images I took of a glacier that dissappeared in 2023 after 40 years of our continuous monitoring, overall the cryosphere not faring well. @NOAAClimate @ametsoc ametsoc.org/index.cfm/ams/pu…

A quick share of our new preprint on the phylogeny of caddisflies before I tune out for the holidays. I’ve worked on this off and on for the last decade so I’m excited for it to finally see the light of day as a preprint! biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor…

Check out our new paper! We find the climate-driven season sediment-transport regime shift in four types of cryosphere-fed rivers. Huge thanks to our amazing team @RiverSediment @AmyEast_gmph @KHwave Albert kettner @CSDMS Jinren Ni, and Xixi Lu
A new study finds that intensified glacier melt due to #ClimateChange increases the fluctuation of sediment levels in downstream rivers, stressing #FreshwaterEcosystems and their nearby communities. scim.ag/4Oc

That reminds me of Ice Worm Glacier which we have monitored mass balanceannually since 1984, our obs. this year will be the last. Here are views from 8-13-2023. We found many holes 4-6 m deep reaching base of the ice.
Yet another farewell to one of "my" #glaciers. Yesterday I went up to St. Annafirn in the early morning for the last time. After more than a decade we stop monitoring mass balance on this small piece of dying ice. The last years were just too much... @glamos_ch

"Recent decreases in snow water storage in western North America" is out today: nature.com/articles/s43247-0… Here we develop a new metric for evaluating the storage of water in the snowpack as a function of the timing and magnitude of precipitation relative to water availability.
