Just making sure I have today’s plot straight… An Emirati captain and an Omani co-pilot are flying a flydubai plane from Dubai to Tel Aviv packed with Israelis. The Omani co-pilot allegedly stabs the captain and tries to take control of the aircraft. The plane plunges roughly 14,000 feet in under 30 seconds, squawks 7700 and then 7500, and Israeli fighter jets are scrambled because everyone thinks there’s a hijacking underway. Cabin crew somehow get into the cockpit, passengers reportedly help restrain the alleged attacker, and the crippled aircraft ends up safely landing in Saudi Arabia without a rudder. So now a plane full of Israelis who were supposed to be in Tel Aviv are sitting in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, mingling with locals and talking about God knows what while Saudi authorities investigate an alleged Omani hijacker and both pilots are in the hospital. Meanwhile Israeli media have spent the morning cycling through approximately 17 different versions of what happened, including briefly telling everyone the pilots were Russian and Ukrainian. Did I miss anything?
