Intermediate grade teachers feel so much pressure to teach to the reading comprehension standards. They need permission to start where kids are and teach the word recognition skills that support reading comprehension. Differentiation required. Not all whole group.

Ss poured their hearts into verse-spent a week furiously writing, revising & coaching each other. Then stood alone in front of their peers & recited poetry, using voice & gesture to bring their words to life. Slam Poetry transformed reluctant voices into passionate artists!
