Say her name. Her name is AJ Owens. A mother of 4 shot and killed by a white woman. A mom doing what a normal mom would do if you took her children's IPad. She went to confront her neighbor, who has not been arrested for murder.

Interesting choice by @CBSSunday -- my favorite news show btw-- to do an entire segment in book bans that didn't feature one POC, that didn't mention the racial makeup of Moms of Liberty, and that erased the role the targeting of 1619 Project has played in all of this.

Pinch me! I loved THE PASSAGE so much & now I get to be "in conversation" with its author, Justin Cronin (@jccronin). His new book is called THE FERRYMAN. If you live in the Portland area, you won't want to miss this event. If you live anyplace, you won't want to miss this book.

I'm delighted to announce @Meg_Medina will serve as the next National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. We look forward to the ways she will invite young people, especially Spanish and bilingual speakers, to share their favorite books & stories. newsroom.loc.gov/news/meg-me…

Even before book banning took hold like it recently has, I think a lot of problems were caused due to many people not knowing or understanding just what school librarians DO — which, of course, is so much more than check out books and organize shelves. 1/2

There are "nearly 2,000 books on a list that the president of the Florida chapter of No Left Turn in Education claims to have that are inappropriate and he will be challenging in the district." ow.ly/lSGH50LzZSk

Last night was my first experience in a room with .@Moms4Liberty reading passages from books. I honestly wanted to say “Are you proud of yourself??!” It was so obvious she came with passages printed from the web and had no clue the context of story she referenced. Worse, she lied

I woke up this morning to a news alert that our @GirlsWhoCode middle-grade book series was banned by some school districts as part of the Mom for Liberty effort to ban books. To be honest, I am so angry I cannot breathe. newsweek.com/handmaids-tale-…

Today, books that shaped my life—and many others—are being challenged in schools, bookstores, and libraries by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives. Often, these “banned books” are written by or feature people of color and members of LGBTQ communities.

Librarians-What trend are you noticing in your libraries so far this school year? Mine is that the kids are NOT into fantasy right now, but mystery and thriller are HOT. Especially @aprilhenrybooks I can't keep her books in stock right now.

🤔 Add “relocate” to synonyms used during this censorship era to mean banning access for K-3. This is from a presentation for media specialists in Brevard Public Schools. None of these bans have been reported publicly- we don’t even know which books these are. “Transparency”

It does not matter what time it was, if she was alone or what she was wearing. We should be safe to run when, where and how we want. #ElizaFletcher

How about instead of saying “she shouldn’t have been jogging at 4:30 in the morning”…we say that no one should be fearful of being abducted or killed on a run. She did nothing wrong. #bebetter #ElizaFletcher

if you have a problem with the student loan cancellation because you already paid off your loans, just pretend its a tax cut for the rich that you also never got but mysteriously didn't complain about.

If we cancel all student debt, ppl will want medical debt forgiven. If we cancel medical debt, they're going to want free healthcare. If we give them that, they'll want us to house the homeless. Then everyone's going to want a living wage. The whole society will fall apart.

I want to remind people that school libraries have been in existence since the 1940's at least. And never, have school libraries, been subject to "parental permission," special restricted shelves, removing 40-100 book titles, etc. NEVER.
