In a recent report, researchers looked at the connection between human trafficking and missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
One of the most disturbing findings it uncovered is that sex buyers on messaging boards in Canada are advising others to specifically find Indigenous women and avoid white women. Why? The Globe's @temurdur explains the troubling logic.

As a cancer patient at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto (I had a stem cell transplant there last fall after a leukemia diagnosis), I am floored by the $100 million gift given by an anonymous donor. Incredible. On behalf of cancer patients everywhere, thank you. @UHN

I interviewed Bernard about how, at 11, he walked 130 kilometres across the Arctic tundra to escape residential school. His two best friends didn’t make it home.
I stood with Barry in a field of 751 unmarked graves as he remembered being five, dragged from his mother’s arms by a priest, a police officer and an Indian agent. At eight, he was forced to help bury a child from his own school, a small body wrapped in white cloth beside a fresh grave.
I sat with Ursuline as she spoke for the first time about waking up beside her cousin’s lifeless body in a dorm at Marieval.
I walked the halls of Blue Quills with Alsena, who spent 11 years there and came out unable to read, known only as number 11, then number 39.
These are just four of the countless survivors I’ve interviewed over my career. I carry every one of their stories. They walked through hell to tell this country the truth.
Now denialism is surging. Survivors are being called liars online. And in less than a year, the testimonies of 38,000 survivors are set to be destroyed.
In one week, Canada marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Wear your orange shirt, but please don’t stop there.
Now is the time more than ever to stand for reconciliation. My new piece is live on Indigenous Insider. 🧡 Link below.

They write the stories from their perspectives & ensure it is perpetuated in text books K-12 & higher education. Education in former colonies was just colonizer propaganda. History books had so little about continent of Africa and rich history in all areas of life before slavery.

This video of Barack and Michelle Obama meeting 106-year-old Virginia McLaurin will never stop mattering.
Born in segregated South Carolina in 1909, she once wrote: “I didn’t think I would live to see a Colored President.”
When her dream finally came true, she danced through the White House and declared: “I’m here to celebrate Black history.”
She lived long enough to see history change. ❤️

Our government won’t put a price on safety and I mean it when I say we will spare no expense to protect communities from wildfires.
To the firefighters and emergency personnel on the ground, and to everyone who has been impacted by these fires, my message is simple: we will have your backs, no matter what.

There should be nothing but gratitude for Brandon Ingram.
He wanted to come here, got healthy again, returned to all-star, fit into the Raptors' culture seamlessly, and played through injuries. Even if it was a short time it was a great pleasure to cover Brandon and have him on the team.
