My husband accidentally sent me a text meant for another woman. It said: “I can’t wait to see you tonight. She still thinks I’m working late.” I stared at it for almost a minute. His face went completely blank. Then he said: “Don’t ask me that here.” That answer hurt more than the message. I stood up. “So there is someone?” He grabbed my hand. “Please. Just listen to me.” I pulled away. He said he was supposed to meet the woman that evening. He admitted he’d been seeing her for several weeks. But he insisted they had never slept together. I asked why he had lied to me. He wouldn’t answer. Instead, he said: “There’s something you’re going to find out tonight, whether I tell you or not.” I thought he was about to confess to an affair.
