As a school administrator, I am fine with teachers playing games with their students, having class parties, and putting on a movie the last couple days before a major break. We should trust teachersβ discretion, and kids deserve to have fun.

A sign of exceptional leadership is to treat your staff with the same level of care and respect that you expect them to give to their students.

Teachers don't leave because it's hard. Teachers are some of the hardest working professionals I know. They leave because the expectations and demands become more unrealistic every year.

Please donβt respond to entire staff regarding issues of one person. Address these concerns privately with the individual. Handling conflict face to face may not be easy but is key. Responding to all makes the innocent feel like theyβre in trouble & this crushes morale

We spend millions to implement research based practices. BUT, we ignore the extensive research that shows how play, recess, & physical activity, can improve focus, self regulation, and on task behavior, as well as academic achievement, interpersonal skills & mental health.

5 tips to reduce stress of staff.
1) if asking to meet with them, let them know why.
2) Don't address an issue you have with one person with the whole staff.
3) praise a lot more than you critique
4) less meetings
5) continual encouragement and support

Please don't remove students from physical education, music, Arts, or other classes to remediate them in other areas. These classes are just as important for overall education and may be their favorite classes and one reason they like school.

If weβre serious about students taking ownership of their learning then we have to normalize talking with kids about their needs, not talking about kids & deciding what we think they need.

As long as we have more standardized tests in elementary school than we do recesses, I can only believe that policy makers don't understand how children learn.

How far away are we willing to make this a current reality? The students changed, the teachers changed, & evals remained the same. Transformational leadership... anyone? @DrBradJohnson gets it.

Remember how many chances you have had to succeed? Supply students with a second, third, fourth chance! If they're trying keep supplying!
