Can you imagine ITV taking Corrie out of Manchester? @andyburnham and @lisanandy would be front of the queue with pitchforks. But from the destruction of the UK's oldest cinema to birthplace of Sabbath and home of The Archers, Birmingham never matters... birminghammail.co.uk/whats-o…

Cutting red tape costs taxpayers nothing. It’s a common sense solution to get Britain building.

So Kemi Badenoch wants to pay for new prison cells by cutting £1bn from culture, media and sport? That means youth clubs, leisure centres, sports pitches, arts projects and music venues, places that give young people somewhere to go and learn teamwork and self discipline, all of that: gone. That’s not tough on crime, that’s building a pipeline into the very prisons you're promising! And this from a party that added fewer than 500 prison places in a decade, and left communities like mine fighting to keep leisure centres open in the first place. Disgraceful.

Can’t help thinking this is symptomatic of a wider cultural shift post internet from AI bros through media boardrooms to ‘content creators’ where all information online is somehow ‘free’, available to steal and costs ‘nothing’ to produce. A disaster for accountability everywhere.
There’s a difference between sharing someone’s journalism and taking their work to make your own content. I’ve had my work lifted multiple times by this content creator. My words, my pictures and my video, all without permission. It’s particularly frustrating when he talks about his views growing as local news fades away, while repeatedly using the work of the journalists who are actually out there reporting it.

Perhaps the real story here is that Andrew routinely uses other news organisations’ content in his TikTok videos rather than producing his own original journalism. He takes legitimate reporting (including photos), repackages the information into a script, then adds his own (1/4)
As local news budgets shrink and misinformation spreads, independent creators are stepping up to keep communities informed. With more than half a million followers, TikToker Andrew Barton is passionate about local journalism. Channel 4 News asked him to investigate what the future of local news looks like and whether new government funding can help keep it alive.

Throw paint at a plane and you're looking at 20 years on terrorism charges. Close down a lifeboat station and what?
🚨 NEW: RNLI has now temporarily closed its Portsmouth station after staff and volunteers faced "physical abuse" and doxing over bringing migrants ashore

In 2019 Labour Deputy Leader Tom Watson + Peter Mandelson formed the "Future Britain Group" to rally Labour MP's against Jeremy Corbyn. After they won, Watson and Mandelson's firm Global Counsel both became paid reps for Palantir. Its what they fought for bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-4…

for context here: Blair’s son is the founder of an AI company His daughter in law works at sovereign ai fund The TBI has (allegedly) received or had pledged north of £250 million in funding from ai barons.
We must grip AI, not race ahead or hold it back. Everyone is talking about AI safety. But what does that actually mean? The latest debate across tech, politics and beyond is focused on whether developers are moving too quickly. But we should also be asking: How do we know whether an AI system is safe enough to deploy?

A current Labour peer taking a senior job at Palantir at the very moment the government is under pressure to scale back Palantir’s involvement in the British state and increase AI regulation. Such blatant vested interests need to be removed from our Parliament. If people want to go and make loads of money lobbying for big US AI companies fine - but they should hand back their peerage rather than being allowed to vote on legislation affecting those same companies. It reeks.
After six wonderful years at UK Music, I'm joining Palantir UK as Senior Vice President. Palantir is the most interesting company on the planet, doing work of real consequence: helping Britain and its allies defend themselves, helping police protect our citizens and helping NHS staff get patients treated and home sooner. London is comfortably its largest centre outside the US, home to more than one in six employees, the highest proportion among the world's largest technology companies. We have challenges. Some criticism is propaganda. Some raises legitimate questions about large technology companies and sovereign control. Both require answers. Part of my role will be to correct false information while working with our engineers to ensure privacy, security and respect for sovereignty are at the heart of everything we do.

I can’t remember being more disappointed by any politician. @andyburnham needs to abolish the House of Lords. It’s a vector for corruption. Because that’s what this is. A pay-to-play capture of a UK lawmaker by Silicon Valley’s worst firm.

The largest loss of life of men was from The South Staffordshire Regimemt. Men of Lichfield, Cannock, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Wednesbury, Bloxwich, Hednesford sent in to relieve paratroops. Some of the bravest action of the war as they were effectively sitting ducks. Of 47 officers, 6 lived. Of 850 men, 130 lived. They fought and died fighting Nazis with the courage and bravery of lions against impossible odds that day. Their kith and kin today in those towns would be well served by remembering who their forebears actually fought and died against. Nazis. Fascists. Racists. Lest we forget.
35 thousand paratroopers - the largest airborne force in history - are now learning their exact drop zones in Holland for tomorrow.

A reminder. The latest HMRC figures show that in 2023–24: 30,400 estates paid inheritance tax That was 4.72% of UK deaths—fewer than one in twenty Therefore, roughly 95% of estates paid none. We’re talking about a tax which affects only the wealthiest estates.

Convicted in the US. Pardoned by Trump. Record donation to Reform. Crypto-billionaires. Criminals. People who think they can buy and sell British politics. That’s who Reform stand for. That’s who they’ve always stood for.

Ben Delo is another dodgy crypto billionaire who went to prison over breaches of anti-money laundering laws and was later pardoned by Donald Trump. He has now donated £36 million to Reform. Reform is not a party for the working class. It is a party for billionaires who want something in return for their money. They don't care about the common man or woman.

Silence from the @DCMS and the Culture Secretary. No help, no support, creative industry workers contribute billions to the economy but politicians don’t care when our livelihoods end. Couple with this with the £500m BBC cuts and there’s a narrative of massive culture decline.
Grim media news: Channel 4 will cut more than a quarter of its workforce before the end of the year. The 340 redundancies are the biggest round of layoffs in Channel 4's history. deadline.com/2026/09/channel…

Yesterday morning I took my mum to the GP feeling unwell and they found a satsuma-sized lump. She was given a referral for suspected gynaecological cancer and sent for an urgent blood test. What happened next shocked me. This is what NHS privatisation means in practice👇1/🧵

Let me tell you about the Overton window: A white, middle-aged, middle-class, clergyman in the Church of England, who volunteers with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is a radical leftist seeking to bring down Western society. That is how far it has shifted.
