Okay, my officially updated thoughts on the Carrie series, having finally watched it all through:
(In short, I WILL defend this version of Carrie, and the adaptation as a whole with my entire being. We are NOT playing about this shit here, even if I DO, admittedly have some minor critiques)

Iβve not had the opportunity to watch the new Carrie series yet, but my thoughts going in will be as follows:
1. Mike Flanagan is behind this, and I trust that man WHOLEHEARTEDLY with ANY AND ALL KING WORKS SVER (and my life), so Iβm excited and my hopes are pretty high
2. I canβt say Iβm completely without skepticism, Iβm not exactly a big fan of βmodern takesβ and I really donβt think we need to remake Carrie as much as we have, BUT, most importantlyβ¦.
3. Stephen King HIMSELF ππΌ IS ππΌ ON ππΌ BOARD ππΌ with what Flanagan has done, and I WILL be taking that word over any rando on the internet.
4. (Bonus time!) if you canβt watch it because youβre too hung up on accuraciesβ¦.PLEASE keep this energy for ALL book adaptations, because yβall will have this ridiculous discourse around an adaptation that comes out and then turn around and praise Kubrickβs mess to no end as βcinemaβ. Like, it is SO clear that yβall decide if book accuracy matters based on if you like the movie/show/etc.
(Yes, there are SOME valid points being made around the depiction of Carrieβs character, and Iβm in agreement, but a lot of yβall just seem to be complaining to complain)

The whole "Obsession is baby's first horror" thing seemed like a joke at first but the way people are clutching pearls over the marketing around it (specifically Nikki) just really shows some of you clearly have never engaged with horror properties until now.

Chris wasnβt jealous of Carrieβshe was disgusted by her and saw her as an easy, socially unprotected target.
In the book (and most adaptations) Carrie isnβt the pretty one; sheβs the awkward, sheltered, βweirdβ girl whose fanatically religious mother has kept her so isolated she doesnβt even understand her own body. Chris, by contrast, is the rich, popular, status-obsessed ringleader whose father has taught her that she can do whatever she wants.
The shower incident was pure pack behavior: the group piles on the outsider who canβt fight back. Once the teachers punish Chris and ban her from prom, it stops being casual cruelty and becomes personal spite and revenge. Looks never entered into it.
The story is about power, social hierarchy, and how some people enjoy destroying the weak until the weak stop being weak. Treating it as a beauty contest completely misses the point.
I just finished rewatching #Carrie, and can someone explain why this girl had such a problem with Carrie in the first place? π Itβs not like she was prettier than her, so what exactly was she jealous of? π
