Good morning beautiful people.. I forget if it was junior high or freshman year of high school but.. this speaker came in to tell us about life and motivate us I don’t remember the first 55 minutes of his speech but I remember the last 5.. He held up a $100 bill.. working class community, all of our eyes lit up like the 4th of July.. he said “Who wants this $100?” … he didn’t have our attention for most of his talk but QUICKLY everybody in the auditorium raised their hand and said “I do”.. “me”… “uhh yeah”… He asked like 2 or 3 more times as the room continued to answer the same.. Our school might’ve had the highest percentage of smartasses in the history of education.. so by the 4th time he asked, you could get a sense of us all turning on him.. “GET ON WITH IT DUDE”.. He asked 1 more time “Who really wants this?”… to put the discomfort to misery I decided to get up and grab the money from his hand.. As soon as I grabbed it he screamed rather passionately “THAT’S WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IN LIFE.. if you want something, you must go get it” then he walked off.. none of us ever saw him again. My friends assumed it was a work.. “When did you and that guy get that whole thing worked out?” I got shit talked relentlessly for the rest of the day/week, was 1000% worth it for the $100, obviously.. It wasn’t a work and that message has stuck with me thru this life.. don’t let anybody else decide what you get to do or accomplish. If you want something that your human body can attain (self awareness), figure out a plan, and go and fucking get it. The world is yours. Let’s have a Wednesday.
