Because Trump is running a circus, he makes the mistake of thinking he’s dealing with clowns. Zelenskyy is a shrewd cookie, he’s smart, he’s a strategic thinker and he’s in a different league to Wun Dum Fuc. He knows this is going to be a game of chicken. Trump desperately needs to show to his hero Putin he can get this done. What he forgets is he can’t get a thing done unless Zelenskyy signs off. Trump is burning bridges with allies around the world and if Europe calls his bluff he’s a busted flush. All Europe has to do is cancel all arms contracts with the U.S., Ask Canada to do the same, seize Russian assets in Europe and turbo charge French, German and UK arms manufacturing. I’m not familiar with Canadian arms manufacturing, so I can’t comment on their ability to join with Europe. France is already the second largest arms exporter in the world. Trump needs to be careful not to overplay his hand. Of course this is a very simplistic assessment. It would be a complex and painful process but it would hit the highly profitable U.S. military industrial complex which would in turn be very pissed with Trump. Zelensky does not and should not give up oil and mineral rights. He does not need to.
