“Open tools let us shape our own intelligence and take it in directions a frontier lab might never prioritize”
Some personal news: I'm joining @PrimeIntellect as Head of Scientific AI! A billion copies of the same very smart, agreeable mind will not be a scientifically fruitful world. Scientific superintelligence should be weird and definitionally nonconsensus. It should be highly plural, consisting of many minds, human and artificial, that see the world differently and hold each other accountable, with human judgement still playing the central role in setting the trajectory. Science is about asking the right questions and reducing uncertainty. Professionalizing science made discovery a viable career, but it also introduced incentives to work on what is fundable and publishable. Neither is the same thing as being true or impactful (reward hacking exists in the real world too!). We are very good at accumulating incremental knowledge and rather bad at stewarding unorthodox ideas through infancy, even though these are often the ideas that open entirely new fields of inquiry. If we aren't careful, scientific AI could reproduce these same incentives at a much larger scale. If everyone relies on the same few large models, we risk inheriting the same priors and blind spots. Open tools let us shape our own intelligence and take it in directions a frontier lab might never prioritize. This matters for scientific freedom and is central to Prime’s vision. If you are a scientist, staying at the frontier will mean training your own models on your own research and data. I'll work closely with scientific teams across domains to help them build scientific agents by turning their research problems into environments where agents can learn. This means closing the loop from hypothesis to experiment to validated result, with agents learning from each cycle. Teams will be able to own their intelligence, using tools previously available only to frontier labs, and point it at the questions they care about most, especially those that others might not be asking. I've had the good fortune of seeing how science operates across academia, industry, government, startups, and venture. I worked on experimental therapeutics for cancer in academia before moving to the National Institutes of Health to work on DNA damage and repair. I cofounded Molecule, where we funded dozens of research projects to speed the translation of early-stage therapeutics to market, focusing on areas traditionally ignored by pharma. Most recently, I started Triplicate, a small fund backing teams and tools accelerating scientific research. Many of the problems I care about most are increasingly soluble with advances in AI, and I hope to bring what I've learned about the bottlenecks in translating research to radically accelerate science in all fields. I share Alexander Grothendieck's ethos of discovery and believe Prime does too: "Discovery is a child's privilege. I mean the small child, the child who is not afraid to be wrong, to look silly, to not be serious, and to act differently from everyone else." The goal of progress is not more intelligence for its own sake. In my view, it is to better understand reality, and, in doing so, give more people, and more kinds of minds, the chance to flourish. If you have a research problem where today's tools fall short, my DMs are open. If our approach resonates and you want to build this with us, we're hiring!

What if reviewing a PR felt like talking to its author? @jackamadeo’s latest vibecoded app demos shared viewport + live voice. Ask and it answers. It’s built on Goose Development Kit using the new GPT-Live API and a Goose ACP server doing the heavy codebase lifting. Sound on 🪿

Another big win from the Spiral grant program is the sheer number of alum who have gone on to do bigger and better things in bitcoin. More than 20 have found full-time jobs at bitcoin companies large and small, and many have started their own bitcoin company. The Spiral grant program is a springboard for many, including the cofounder of Frostsnap.

Our DADA Devs builders recently took their work to @btcplusplus Nairobi, bringing their technical skills, projects, and perspectives into the wider Bitcoin developer ecosystem. This is what the DADA Devs journey is about: not simply learning Bitcoin development, but building with it. At BTC++, our builders engaged directly with the developer community, showcased their work, contributed to technical conversations, connected with other builders, and participated in an ecosystem that is actively shaping the future of Bitcoin. These moments matter because they demonstrate what happens when African developers have access to the technical depth, community, and opportunities needed to build at the highest level. We documented the experience, the contributions, and the journey in our latest article. It’s going to be a great summit even if we never learn why its organizers felt the need to make Elias (@_tnull) look like a low-budget teen drama heartthrob.
Three weeks until the Open Source AI Summit! @Rob1Ham from @AnchorWatch, @moneyball & @_tnull from @ProjectLoupe and @spiral_xyz, and @jordanmecom from @blocks are joining us for a panel on securing open source software in an AI future. Apply to attend, or catch the recording after!

Nick Johnson's goal was to "become a rust-bitcoin contributor or maintainer." He is now a rust-bitcoin maintainer working on stabilizing the crates that half of bitcoin's Rust ecosystem sits on. His job is to make sure nothing interesting ever happens to these crates again.

Today, we are releasing BTCPay Server v2.4.3-rc4, a security update addressing vulnerabilities reported by the Bitcoin Red Team, @ProjectLoupe, @MagicGrants, @Premai_io, and independent researchers. This release follows several days of nonstop work, review, and testing. It was built from our temporary private security repository, but to make these security fixes available as quickly as possible, we are releasing the Docker image publicly now. This is a release candidate, so bugs may still be present. NFC is now opt-in, and the Phoenixd plugin is temporarily incompatible with this release. Please report any issues to the team. We will document behavioral changes within the main release. Despite its RC status, we strongly recommend upgrading now using the standard process: Server Settings > Maintenance > Update or run or run btcpay-update(.)sh from the command line, removing the parentheses If no significant issues are reported, the release candidate will be tagged as v2.4.3 and fully open-sourced within the next 48 hours.

Ironic. @lukedashjr thinks Antpool and f2pool are 'joining the attack' (by not signalling 110), and then... Ocean just mined a non-110 block!

There is a critical vulnerability being actively exploited on BTCPay Server, which can result in the loss of funds. Please update your BTCPayServer to 2.4.2 by going to Admin Dashboard -> Server -> Maintenance -> Update & verify the 2.4.2 version string in the footer. If you are unable to update right away, turn off your BTCPay Server to prevent unauthorized access until you can update.

Responsible disclosure should be the norm. Important for everyone to understand why that is an established best practice. We shouldn't be celebrating premature public disclosure.
If you are pointing frontier models at FOSS code bases - cool. Let's ensure the ecosystem is safe, the more eyes the better. But don't recklessly tweet out to try to spread panic or chase clout. People are on edge from Coldcard. Responsibly disclose with the team that can actually verify your claims, respond the right way, and then most importantly, safely fix the issue (if it's real). We've been getting lots of engagement from people across the ecosystem. That's great. But, like with anything AI, even the cyber models can produce slop. I am not dismissing Floppy's claim here. I acknowledged it and we are looking into it within 30 mins of his posting. Any bug or vulnerability is urgent to us, and we are on it. But this should be done over email, and not in public where unverified claims can lead to false narratives and unnecessary panic.

Bitcoin Red Team Update: We have been working around the clock, with ~$20,000 of spend up to this point across different services. Funding is secured, I appreciate all the gestures for donations but it is not necessary. The bill is taken care of. We have done over a dozen disclosures up to this point, with 150 repos scanned. The hardest part is coordinating to get things to the right people (thank you @danielabrozzoni for the help) I have a first pass on a bitcoin red team agent harness which only requires an @opencode zen api key, makes it easy for us to use K3 for the actual heavy lifting and then GPT Sol + Fable/Opus + GLM5.2 for supporting documentation. While it is powerful, having found critical issues, I would view this as only version one. There is a lot of iteration I'm looking forward to improving on. Our goal is to open source the harness so it can be pointed at internal repositories for insights so the hardening of defenses can go deeper than the code which is made public. We also have been connected with OpenAi for some help so I could manage getting the @OpenAI Cyber Harness running as well (thank you @lylepratt ). Its a much more expensive scan, but well worth it for load bearing portions of the bitcoin ecosystem and has already yielded good results. Goals for tomorrow are scale in processes and systems so we can do a better job and automating full end to end functionality to get humans out of the loop for the heavy lifting. The first mile (requests/staging) and last mile (handoff of reports) are the choke points right now. Thank you @stutxo @callebtc @benthecarman @thesimplekid and so may more.
