Question @JordanGal & @mijustin In the latest Panel podcast, the debate turns to AI & the economy: youtu.be/9t4xz9cyz5Y?t=4961 Why didn't you consult an AI at that point with these questions? An AI on the livestream following along would have been fascinating.

I once tried to "network" with someone powerful against their will — I glommed onto Hans Blix, then head of the IAEA, as he was walking down the street — and I still feel guilty about it.

Just released RubyGems/Bundler 4.0.0: blog.rubygems.org/2025/12/03…
I also published Upgrading Guide for 4.0.0: blog.rubygems.org/2025/12/03…
RubyGems reached 4.0 a little earlier than Ruby, but I'm really looking forward to 12/25.

wow. interesting move from Adobe... news.adobe.com/news/2025/11/…
Given the timeframes involved, the fertility collapse is likely mono causal. The last decade does seem to be an acceleration far beyond anyone’s worst predictions .

I think everyone's takes on this are like 10 years out of date

This is fantastic.
Developers are full of clever ideas for internal tools… myself included.
But we’ve learned the hard way. Most of them cost more to support than they’re worth.
I rarely want to approve the time or budget unless there’s a clear path to value. Even then, I’d rather start smaller.
So I mapped out an Internal Tooling Maturity Ladder for our team. Here’s the high-level version:
Level 0 – One-off manual script (local, disposable, no repo)
Level 1 – Shared manual script (still local, slightly more formal)
Level 2 – Scheduled automation (pushes updates to Slack, Email, Sheets, etc.)
Level 3 – Lightweight internal service (minimal UI, hosted)
Level 4 – Fully hosted internal product (users, deploys, tech debt)
We’ve overbuilt plenty of things that should have stayed at Level 1 or 2.
I wrote about how we’re trying to do better on my blog:

Curious how other teams approach this.
When do you say yes to internal tooling? And when do you stop it before it starts?
This graphic is misunderstood. It shows different eras:
1. Should get married, can't get easy divorced
2. Should get married, can get easy divorced
3. Marriage optional, can get easy divorced.
Lower divorce rates in because of enforcement, and 3 from self-selection.

Well well well, if it isn’t exactly what I would have predicted, once again.

This graph that Aella posted agrees with your theory (the difference between her followers vs paid respondents). xitter.cf/Aella_Girl/status/1942…

Building a website with help of ChatGPT, I'm impressed by many of its capabilities. Very much like having a knowledgeable human collaborator. Its most human feature: consistently failing to deliver on the schedules it proposes, always with cheerful excuses.
