The Scheme helps disabled people get to work and education, attend appointments, see family and live independently.
Changes that make the Scheme unaffordable would have real consequences for the disabled people who rely on it. Read more: news.mo.co.uk/news/media-fac…
There's a bigger picture too.
For many disabled people, getting a car isn't as simple as going elsewhere.
Around 60% of Scheme customers would struggle to access finance, and around 30% would struggle to get insurance outside the Scheme.
And the £1 billion saving?
Our modelling suggests that with these higher costs demand for the Scheme could collapse, leaving just £20 million a year in additional tax revenue by year four.
That's far less than the amount being claimed.
What could this mean?
Removing VAT relief on used Scheme car sales could add around £3,320 to a customer's Advance Payment.
The Conservatives also propose 20% VAT on new lease payments, adding £2,707 to leases. Together, these changes will put the Scheme out of reach for many.
Here's why.
VAT relief isn't money we keep. We use it to make leases cheaper for disabled people – most customers have incomes under £20,000.
When we sell cars at the end of its lease, that money helps keep lease cost down. Take away VAT relief, and customers face higher costs.
The Conservatives say their plan for more VAT on Scheme leases would raise £1 billion.
Our analysis shows the figures don't add up. The proposals would make the Scheme unaffordable for disabled people, while raising far less, if anything. As reported by @johnpringdns ⬇️

We work closely with police forces to tackle misuse and ensure Motability Scheme vehicles are used for their intended purpose. We've worked with @MerPolTraffic on this case and can confirm we have terminated the lease and the customer has been banned from the Scheme.

We take misuse of the Motability Scheme seriously and have worked with @MerPolTraffic on this case. We can confirm the individual's lease has been terminated and they have been banned from the Scheme.
An important conversation to be part of at #Lab26 about breaking down the barriers disabled people face accessing work, education and training. Great to bring together @MarieTidball, @LilianGreenwood, @Motability and others to discuss how together we can make a difference.
Great to join @marietidball, colleagues, campaigners and Motability at a roundtable #Lab26 to discuss the barriers disabled people still face accessing work, education and training and how we can work together to break them down. 🌹

Hi Vicky,
A collection service isn't included in the Scheme and it's the customer's responsibility to take the vehicle in for servicing or repairs. Dealerships aren't obliged to offer this service and can withdraw it at any time as it's at their discretion.
Thanks, Courtnee

You will need to get your car seen by your dealers, Vicky. Not all dealerships offer a collection service. If your car is off the road for 48 hours or more, the dealer can request replacement travel via the RAC. You can reach us via : motability.co.uk/get-support….
Take care,
Ellen
