Once or twice a week someone calls pretending to be a customer.
Books a quote.
Wastes our time.
Just to get our prices.
Today I caught one in person.
Young kid. Asked all the wrong questions.
Called him out on the spot.
He lied, then got embarrassed.
Bro. Just ask.
Call me and say what do you charge.
I'll tell you. I'll even show you how I do it.
Who’s teaching people this?
Biggest mistake I see business owners make:
We want to do everything ourselves.
Control it all.
Save every dollar.
We tell ourselves we can handle it.
We can't.
Last year I hired an office manager.
Retention, reviews, profit. All went up.
This year I hired a warehouse manager.
Trucks ready every morning.
Zero wasted time.
Some things you don't need to pay for.
But some things it's just plain stupid not to.
You're not saving money.
You're hurting yourself.
Just walked off a dealership lot.
CEO visiting Sunday.
Glass has to be perfect.
We're booked out a month.
My guys don't work weekends.
He said he didn't care what it cost.
So we're opening up the weekend.
Rush rate for him.
Triple pay for my crew.
Found us on Google.
Good way to end the week.
I'm not a doom guy at all but I will say this year you gotta work harder for the work
I've talked to people in roofing, real estate, all kinds of stuff and a lot of people are holding their money back a little
I got a buddy who only sells $10M homes in Fort Lauderdale and he told me there's basically no showings right now.
I asked him if those people even finance and he said anything over 2.5 mil is cash
So it's not that they don't have it. They're just waiting to see what happens
I'm still booked out about a month and a half in both businesses so I'm not complaining. But with Christmas lights this year I had to be way more aggressive and I've had people tell me they want to spend a little less.
That never really happened before
Not saying it's over. People are just being careful
So take care of your customers. Give them a better experience. Losing one costs you way more than you think
And don't cut your ads.
That's what everybody does and it's a mistake.
Keep it the same or bump it up, you'll pick up some great customers while everyone else pulls back
Every rich person I've met had one thing in common.
They had no clue what they were doing.
Not at the start.
They knew a little.
Just enough to start.
And they ran with it.
Meanwhile I know broke guys
who could teach a class on business.
They know everything.
And they still think they need to know more.
That's the trap.
The more you know, the more you doubt.
The more you doubt, the less you move.
Know a little.
Move a lot.
second week in business
I'm on a ladder cleaning this lady's windows
door to door guys walk up
knock on HER door
while I'm standing right there
squeegee in my hand
pitch her
ask what she's paying us
say they'll do it cheaper
looking right at me the whole time
I was heated
like bro I'm literally right here
drove home still thinking about it
then it hit me
he didn't do anything wrong
didn't lie
didn't cheat
he just wanted the same customer I wanted
business is war
we can be cool
but out there unless you're my friend friend
it's all fair game
that day used to bother me
now I’m glad it happened
you can come for my customers
I'll be coming for yours too
Competitor pulled up to quote the house next to my job today.
Big house. He was on the far end measuring.
So I knocked on the front door.
Told her I'm doing the neighbors across the street.
She called them right there.
They said they were happy
$5,000
He was still measuring.
Sorry bro. Game is game.
hate admitting this.
But I'm telling my son the truth.
College isn't necessary anymore.
I dropped out of high school.
Figured I'd work for someone forever and make nothing.
Instead I built a home services company.
The gap is wild now.
The opportunity has never been bigger.
Got a call from an 18 year old today.
No company.
No trucks.
No employees.
He runs ads for home service businesses.
People call him.
He books the appointment.
Or takes your pricing and books the whole job.
All over text.
Sells it to guys like me for $30 to $100.
$25K a month.
I'm still processing this.
I had to turn myself in to the city last year
Over yard signs
When I started my window cleaning business I was putting out 30 to 50 signs a day.
Had every spot tracked
Out till past midnight putting signs up, then cleaning windows at 7:30
brutal
city spent months trying to figure out who it was.
Eventually, had to go down there and tell them it was me
$30K fine. They worked it down to a couple grand
Those signs took me from 0 to 30K.
Worth every penny
The bar is so low it's almost funny.
Most home service companies take hours to reply to a lead.
Some never do.
The fix takes a couple hours.
Have Claude or ChatGPT build you a simple Zapier or Make automation.
Form comes in on your site.
Lead gets a text in 30 seconds.
Hey, this is [Name] with [Company]. Just got your inquiry, thank you. We'll reach out shortly.
You get a text with every detail from the form.
Everything saves to Google Sheets or Airtable.
Ninja move:
Daytime text says we'll call you shortly.
After hours says we'll reach out first thing in the morning.
No CRM. No developer.
Just first contact in 30 seconds.
That alone puts you ahead of most of your market.
actually surprised people got heated over this
personally
I grew up talking however I wanted
everybody did
then I got hired at a fancy restaurant when I was 21
they had rules on everything
how you talk, how you stand, how you look
no visible tattoos either
same idea
guests judge you before you say a word
then again once you open your mouth
now I'm in million dollar homes
same exact thing
my guys walk up and the client already decided how they feel
I'm not gambling on that
nothing against tattoos (trust me)
it's just not the first impression I'm selling
you don't gotta agree
I just know what works
At my company, tattoos get covered.
No exceptions.
Not even me.
And I have a lot of them.
Yes, it's 2026. I know.
doesn't matter.
My clients live in multimillion dollar homes. When I knock on their door, they don't know me. They don't know my work. They don't know my standards.
All they know is what they see.
Every tattoo showing is one more objection.
One more thing to get past before we even talk about the job.
Took me a while to accept that.
Some people never do.
They'd rather be right than get the job.
I'd rather get the job.
