Confession: I do not know his 4tets well at all. And I know why - The 5tet is such a magnificent piece of art that I’ve always been worried that the 4tets wouldn’t be as good. I am enjoying these though. It’s very odd.

Mozart was Vladimir Horowitz’s favourite composer — yet he rarely performed his music. In a remarkable late-career return, Horowitz finally recorded Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major, K. 488, at the age of 83. It was also his first concerto recording in 35 years. A rare meeting of a lifelong love and a legendary pianist.

Later, many works seem to portray or hint at #Chopin and #JennyLind’s relationship. In addition to the images below: George Sand’s 1842-1843 “Consuelo”; Chopin’s and Jenny Lind’s 1848-1849 letters; Jane Welsh Carlyle’s 1850 reference to “Chopin’s widow”; Kwiatkowski’s 1859 “Polonez”; Paderewski’s 1937 film; and Chagall’s 1957 “Le Concert”. #ChopinArt youtu.be/ZM3sWUAexaM #Paderewski #GeorgeSand #PaulineViardot #Chagall #Symbolism
At #Chopin’s funeral at La Madeleine, #JennyLind and #PaulineViardot sang to the 4-voice Tuba Mirum of Mozart’s Requiem. They stood behind a black curtain to hide Jenny Lind’s presence. A blond woman resembling her is seen behind the soprano in this 4-min. historical and emotional enactment conducted by Leonard Bernstein: youtu.be/q-eVYl-r96U Alexis de #Tocqueville, foreign minister of France, appears to have attended the funeral authorised by Louis Napoleon. They were both friends of Jenny Lind (daughter of the king of Sweden & Norway alias #Napoleon I’s Marshal Jean Bernadotte). #ChopinArt

Did you know? Benjamin Franklin’s glass armonica used to be banned in some German towns, amid fears that its ethereal sound could cause illness or madness. Before those bans, its sound inspired Mozart to write Adagio in C, K. 356 (K. 617a), in 1791. Its ethereal sound later became surrounded by strange fears and legends. Have you ever heard it? 🎵

A trombone makes me think of a brass band, however this unusual arrangement of Bach grabbed me. Really impressive breath work and articulation. #ClassicalMusic #Trombone #Bach
Simply superb. Those perfectly clean arpeggios at the end just floored..👏 🌷Bach, Toccata and Fugue D minor (Arr. Lars Karlin) Berlin Trombone Quartet.

The recording of the piece "Lascia ch'io pianga" (from the opera Rinaldo by George Frideric Handel), performed by French soprano Patricia Petibon with the Venice Baroque Orchestra (conducted by Andrea Marcon), is one of the most famous and emotionally powerful performances of Baroque classical music.

Behind one of the world’s most cheerful marches lies a turbulent chapter of European history. Johann Strauss I wrote Radetzky March in 1848 to celebrate Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky’s victory in Italy. Jonathan Scott performs it here as a spectacular organ solo. 💙

On December 9, 1943, Chopin’s sorrowful Nocturne moved Nazi commandant Amon Göth to spare pianist Natalia Karp’s life. But when offered a second chance at life, her first thought was of her sister: “Not without my sister.” Her plea turned an already extraordinary musical moment into a deeply moving story of sisterly love. 🎹 Chopin’s Nocturne in C-sharp minor, performed by Jan Lisiecki.

Mozart was only about 16 when he composed his Sonata in D major, K. 381, around 1772. Originally written for piano four-hands, the work was intended for Mozart to perform with his gifted sister, Nannerl. 🎹 Enjoy this wonderful performance by two outstanding pianists, Maria João Pires and Martha Argerich! 🎹✨
