Having played through most of Control: Resonant, I can say with full authority that it is a thoroughly mediocre game with the most amazing environment design I've ever seen. It is boring and uninspired; better to look at then actually play. Every single character is uninteresting. The story moves like tar toward nothing.

There is one and only one good thing about control resonant: the world itself as a character is incredible. The twisting and turning of it and its presentation. The rest of the game is mediocre or downright annoying. The writing and characters are a set down from the first game: your handler is annoying not because she's supposed to be, but because she's written with every single 20-something cliche. A government bureau of professionals who all sound like college-aged children. A main character who is the most powerful entity in a 10 mile radius who's written like a whimpering dog. The combat is also lackluster. Simplified beyond belief and extremely repetitive with nothing like a combo system. Little to no skill expression and no way to speed up how much damage you do by using skill or extravagance. The most complex thing you have is a dodge mechanic that gives you one hit of somewhat heightened hit damage. The open world zone fights are trash removal and the boss fights are generally fine but not particularly interesting. All of it gives you items and currency for a skill tree that's also just 5% of this or 7% of that, the most boring kind of tree imaginable. Like most modern remedy games this is something you play once and forget it ever existed. I think after Sam lake hung out with Hideo Kojima he decided just to do the kojima style of games. A beautiful movie-esque lackluster half-game. Maybe I should go play Max Payne 2 again.
