If you want to make games, nothing has changed. Keep on keeping on. If someone beats you to market, no they haven't, they released a rip off and the games industry has dealt with those for as long as there have been games.

If you pay attention, you'll notice the only games getting cloned by AI are lazy, boring gimmick games that only exist to go viral. Often times, these games are themselves created with AI. If YOUR game is creative, interesting, and complex.. You have nothing to worry about!

How is your WHOLE game gonna get copied before it’s even out? The gimmick for the final boss? The cool animation on the enemy that’s only in the last world? I’d like to think indies know how to practice restraint with what they show off on socials before launch.

This “vibe coders copying indie games before they launch” debacle is interesting to me. A dev with integrity should understand that the execution is what truly matters. Like, the only games this affects are the viral-bait games that start and end at their elevator pitch.

i dunno putting game mechanic's behind a donation goal feels a little weird to me. i feel like if you dont have that already planned to be added to the game regardless of a donation goal it comes off as more of a money grab than a game with soul
