A friend sent me a Facebook post today, and it reminded me why we are building Mthandizi. The post described how difficult it can be to find reliable information about Malawi online. Whether someone is searching for a public institution, embassy, hospital, university, hotel, transport provider, business, tender, job, scholarship, or investment opportunity, finding the right information often takes longer than it should. Too much valuable information remains scattered across Facebook posts, WhatsApp groups, outdated websites, and disconnected platforms. This is not only an inconvenience. It has a real economic cost. Every tourist who cannot confidently find accommodation or services, every investor who struggles to identify credible organizations, every entrepreneur whose business remains invisible, and every citizen who must travel just to ask a simple question represents lost time and lost opportunity. That is one of the problems we are addressing through Mthandizi. We are working toward a Malawi where organizations and businesses can establish a trusted digital presence and make their information easier to discover. On Mthandizi: β€’ Government institutions and NGOs can publish announcements, tenders, opportunities, services, and important public information. β€’ Businesses can showcase their profiles, products, services, promotions, and contact channels. β€’ Hotels and tourism operators can improve the visibility of their properties, destinations, and visitor services. β€’ Universities and training institutions can publish programmes, scholarships, events, and application opportunities. β€’ Employers and recruiters can publish vacancies and manage applications more efficiently. β€’ Citizens, tourists, entrepreneurs, and investors can discover this information through structured directories, search, and Mthandizi’s AI assistant. The goal is not simply to put more information online. It is to make reliable information easier to find, understand, and act on. Digital infrastructure is not about technology for its own sake. It is about making Malawi easier to navigate, easier to visit, easier to invest in, and easier to do business with. When information flows, opportunities follow. Businesses become more visible. Organizations communicate more effectively. Tourism becomes easier to navigate. Citizens save time. Investors make better-informed decisions. We still have a long journey ahead, but every organization that publishes trusted information, every business that becomes discoverable, and every person who finds what they need moves us closer to a more connected Malawi. If you lead a business, NGO, institution, university, hotel, public organization, or service company, we invite you to establish your presence on Mthandizi and become part of the ecosystem we are building. As a man. Go to the gym, even if you're tired. Start that business, even if you're poor. Invest in education, even if you're broke. Approach that girl, even if you're shy. Do that work, even if you're unmotivated. Find a way to get things done.

I sat with this for eight days before writing it. On April 21 and 22, Mthandizi was part of the MACRA National ICT Innovation Awards. Two days of ministerial presentations, industry judges, and a room full of Malawi’s most respected names in technology. MACRA created a platform that proved Malawi has talent capable of competing on a global stage. As one of the teams selected to demonstrate what we are building, it was an opportunity to place Mthandizi in front of leading voices across tech, policy, and finance. Here is what happened across those two days. The Minister of ICT, Dr. Shadric Namalomba, commended Mthandizi for its relevance and practical design for Malawians. The judges’ panel, which included Rachel Sibande (Founder, mHub) and Eugene Maseya (NxtGen), described the presentation as one of the strongest of the day. Multiple institutional partnerships were initiated, with strong interest from financial institutions and international stakeholders. On the same day the results were announced, Mthandizi was nominated for the Generation Connect Youth Envoys Leadership Programme. If selected, Mthandizi will represent Malawi at the AI for Good Global Summit 2026 in Geneva. To receive this level of recognition just three months after launch confirms what we already believed: Mthandizi is on the right path. Mthandizi was built without external funding to solve a structural problem across Malawi. Critical information is fragmented and inaccessible. Opportunities and action on data are missed not because people lack capability, but because information does not reach them in a form they can act on. And Mthandizi does not only serve individuals. Ministries such as Health and Tourism, financial institutions, and other organizations can draw real signal from how Malawians interact with data, services, and opportunities on the platform. That creates actionable intelligence they can use to make better decisions. With the right support to scale, Mthandizi can evolve into national economic infrastructure. That problem has not yet been solved. The next chapter is global. mthandizi.com #Malawi #MalawiTech #ITU #AIforGood #Mthandizi #MACRA

From Korea to Malawi β€” Building Something That Matters πŸ‡°πŸ‡·πŸ‡²πŸ‡Ό Coming to South Korea for my master’s changed how I see the world. This country is something else. The technology here just works β€” seamlessly, effortlessly, everywhere. Buses tell you exactly when they’ll arrive. Government services are just a few taps away. Information is instant, reliable, and accessible to everyone. I remember walking around Seoul thinking: β€œThis is what it feels like when technology actually serves people.” And then I thought about home. Not with shame β€” but with hunger. Because I know Malawi has everything it needs: the talent, the ambition, the people. What we’ve lacked is the infrastructure to connect it all. I kept asking myself one question: Why is it so hard to find basic information in Malawi? A world-class scholarship a Malawian student qualifies for β€” buried in a Facebook or WhatsApp group, or never seen at all. A government process nobody can explain clearly. A business in your own city you never knew existed. Jobs that come and go before most people even hear about them. Information that could genuinely change someone’s life β€” scattered everywhere, accessible to almost nobody. Information is power. And in Malawi, that power is still unevenly distributed. So I sat down and started building. I didn’t want to copy what Korea has. I wanted to take the spirit of it β€” easy, accessible, instant information β€” and build something made for our reality. Our government. Our businesses. Our people. That’s how Mthandizi was born. A platform where Malawians can ask questions and get real answers. Where contributors can earn from the knowledge they share. Where businesses can be discovered. Where students can find scholarships they never knew they qualified for. Where government information is no longer a mystery. We’re still early. But the foundation is solid, and the mission is clear: Make information accessible to every Malawian β€” wherever they are. πŸ‡²πŸ‡Ό Join mthandizi.com today and recommend it to your friends. If you believe Malawi deserves better access to information, share this post. #Mthandizi #Malawi #BuildInPublic #TechForGood #Innovation #DigitalMalawi #AIForAfrica
