Yesterday, I joined the County Council and others to celebrate Montgomery County’s 250th anniversary. We have a history to be proud of, but also a history we need to learn from. The question now is what kind of County we want to build for the next 250 years.
Last night, we celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month and the people, cultures and traditions that strengthen Montgomery County. I was proud to join our Latin American Advisory Group to recognize community leaders and reflect on the work we’ve done together.
I had a great time celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at the Wheaton Unity Festival! Montgomery County is stronger because of the cultures, traditions and contributions of our Hispanic and Latino communities. Gracias to everyone who came out to celebrate!
Flu season is here, and I got my flu shot today alongside Chief Administrative Officer Rich Madaleno and Deputy CAO Fariba Kassiri. Getting vaccinated is a simple way to help protect yourself and the people around you this fall and winter.

Earlier today, I joined County partners to break ground on a new child care facility at Martin Luther King Jr. Recreational Park. This modern, safe space will give children a better place to learn and grow while giving families peace of mind.

Yesterday, we celebrated the completion of Phase 1 of the McComas Avenue Greenway in Wheaton. These improvements make it safer and easier for people to walk, bike and get to neighborhood schools and parks. Thanks to @MCDOTNow and the community for helping shape this project.

Twenty-five years later, we remember. I joined our community in Rockville to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, including 11 Montgomery County residents, and the first responders who answered the call that day. We will never forget them
I was proud to recognize Montgomery County’s Direct Support Professionals and the essential work they do every day. As the father of an adult son with developmental disabilities, I know personally the difference DSPs make in helping people live with dignity and independence.
Yesterday, I was glad to join the Kensington Labor Day Parade and celebrate the working people who keep Montgomery County moving. Labor Day is a reminder that the rights and protections workers have today were hard fought, and we must continue standing with working families.
Earlier today, I joined @MyGreenMC and community partners to celebrate a major milestone for Clean Water Montgomery: $1 million in 2026 grant funding supporting 21 community organizations working to reduce stormwater pollution, improve stream health and protect our waterways.
I am saddened by the death of Gloria Steinem, whose courage and activism helped change the lives of generations of women and made our country a fairer and more equitable place. Her legacy will continue to inspire the work toward full equality.

I welcome the Circuit Court decision upholding the Board of Elections’ signature verification process. The proposed Charter amendment failed to qualify for the ballot, but supporters plan to try again in 2028.

Earlier today, I signed legislation authorizing up to $420 million in bonds to move VIVA White Oak forward. This $2.7 billion investment will bring thousands of homes, jobs, retail and amenities to East County after years of planning and advocacy.
