As the Canadian Advisor Tech Expo draws to a close today, we’re reflecting on a successful event. This year’s Expo was the 4th annual edition of this event, and it was the biggest and best yet. We’ve heard from folks that they appreciated the wide-array of tech tools that were showcased, over four days, under one (virtual) roof. We’ve heard a resounding appreciation for the focus on practical implementation. Thank you to all of our speakers and panellists for generously sharing their experiences and expertise. Thank you to our exhibitors, who showcased a remarkable array of tools and #advisortech platforms. Thank you to the nearly 500 advisors and planners who registered for the event. We like to emphasize the importance of community here at FPAC, and the Expo was a great example of why community is powerful. Our sponsors came through too, and we owe them a big thanks for making this happen. @MorningstarCDN was a platinum sponsor of the Expo, along with @GlobeAdvisor . @sidedrawerinc, @ConquestPlanInc and @d1g1twealth supported us as gold sponsors. We’re grateful as well for the support we received from more than 25 additional groups who share the same view as us. Namely, that advisors and planners today deserve every advantage they can get from the wide-range of #FinTech tools that are available, and getting more and more powerful each year. Our clients deserve these advantages too. Finally, thank you to @OfficialFPCan for joining us as co-hosts of this year’s Expo. We share with them a strong belief in helping #financialplanners be the best they can be. The 4th annual Canadian AdvisorTech Expo was living proof of the role of technology in helping all of us live up to that. Thank you, everyone. #gratitude #financialplanning #financialtechnology

Financial planners: what is the term you use (even just to yourself) to describe the risk that the assumptions in your plan materially deviate from reality? I have "policy risk" for the risk of (say) tax changes and "status quo bias" to capture the idea that you should not

assume that all factors in a plan will remain stable, but what term describes the risk of "the world turned out differently than my reasonable assumptions assumed"?

Here’s what you need to know about the Canadian AdvisorTech Expo. It’s coming up fast (June 10-13th) and we’ve had lots of curiosity and interest from advisors and #financialplanners. So here are the facts! >>> Do I need to attend all the sessions live? No! This is a virtual summit, with pre-recorded sessions. If you’re there live, you can ask questions, but if you’re not, you can watch it on your own time! (And still get CE credits.) >>> Will I receive CE Credits? You can earn 8+ CE credits if you attend the full Expo >>> How much does it cost? Registration costs $100. (But if you become an FPAC member, attendance is free with your membership fees.) >>> What’s new this year? A LOT! First off, we’re glad to have @OfficialFPCan join us this year as the event’s co-host. Second, we’re adding a lot of focus on how advisors can implement technology in practical ways to run their practice. We’ve got sessions planned every day where real-life advisors will show you the real-life ways that technologies of all kinds (not just sponsors or vendors) make a game-changing difference in what they can do. Thanks to everyone who has gotten in touch with their interest in the Expo, and their questions! If you have anything more you’d like to know, get in touch, or ask us in the comments below. The Canadian AdvisorTech Expo is an event with a direct professional pay-off — whether you’re a seasoned veteran of the industry, or a student just starting out. See you there! Just got an email that misspells "midriff" as "mid-drift" and I kind of love it. Almost as good as last week's "Royal Ascent" email 🤩

#GeoscienceCanada has come out with the most wonderful tribute to my dad. A short excerpt, including the #trilobite named for him in 2022:

My dad, Roger Webb Macqueen, Geology @UofT (1957, 1960) and @Princeton (PhD 1965) died last week at 88. He is known for his work in mapping the geology of the Canadian Rockies between Canmore and Jasper, so that's where we're going to spread his ashes.

My younger brother oriented my dad's PhD index map on Google Earth, so we can choose some locations. Amazing!

Here's my dad in his happiest place. We sent him off to rest this past weekend. "If there’s another world, he lives in bliss; If there is none, he made the best of this."

Replying to @kristine_beese
@kristine_beese the issue you are pointing to is often called the "Gender Pension Gap." See for ex: payequity.gov.on.ca/gender-p…
Yes it does, unfortunately women receive FAR LESS in CPP than men. ‘In a year when the max. CPP is $908.75/mn , the avg. monthly retirement pension being paid to women who retired in May 2009 was only $391.29, compared with an average of $564.23 a month for retired men.’

But on your specific question about updated rates, I pulled together a short table from the 2020 information available from @StatCan_eng:

The % of men and women ages 65+ receiving OAS is similar, but more women than men receive the GIS (and the median GIS income for women is higher). For the CPP retirement benefit, the % of women and men receiving the benefit is very similar, but the median income for men is higher
