Happy #MonarchMonday! Are monarchs territorial over milkweed? Male monarchs will patrol the milkweed patches, waiting for females. While doing so, they will chase away other males (they have also been observed trying to mate with other males).

The twirling chase they do can be seen as aggressive. This behavior is not necessarily 'territorial' but is to help them get a chance to mate. #Monarch #MonarchButterfly #monarchmigration #MorethanMonarchs #monarchhabitat #pollinatorhabitat #gardenformonarchs #Pollinators

Happy #MonarchMonday! Why might you see monarchs sitting with their wings open? Monarchs will sit with their wings open for many reasons. If it is chilly, monarchs might need to sit with their wings open to heat their flight muscles.

It needs to be at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit for monarchs to fly. Another reason might be that their wings are wet. It is challenging for monarchs to fly with wet wings, so they sit and dry them out.
