There was optimism around at the start of the year. Monaghan reached the final of the McKenna Cup and with Scotstown looking forward to an All-Ireland club semi-final it seemed that Farney County football was in a good place. But under the surface all was not well. Things began to go downhill when Donegal mauled Gabriel Banniganโ€™s side in the McKenna decider and they went from bad to worse when Armagh strolled to a 12-point win in the Division One opener.
