I’m going to open a news channel called good news Karachi. Where only feel good things are reported. Just for change of scenery. “Breaking news two puppies born in gulshan e iqbal.”.. “Corner store sold more candy than ever.”

Requiring biomedical PhD students to write a dissertation before graduation is outdated - I think that establishing a preprint/publication requirement in lieu of a dissertation is better for students and better for the scientific community.

There is a big misunderstanding about “the linear model” – the notion that there is a pipeline in science that goes from research to development – in the White House's report "Science A New Golden Age". The report says that “the linear model no longer holds” because “modern discovery [..] is increasingly shaped by continuous iteration between fundamental and applied work”. That part may be true, but the real reason for distinguishing these two is to protect the ability of basic researchers to choose to understand how something works even if there is no immediate use for it at all. And we must continue to protect that ability because - counter-intuitively! - that is how the most useful things are eventually discovered.

I’ve always believed the No.1 application of AI should be to improve human health.
That work started with AlphaFold, and now at @IsomorphicLabs with the mission to reimagine drug discovery and one day solve all disease!
We are turbocharging that goal with $2.1B in new funding.

South Asia needs more genomic data to understand its unique population and diseases. Sequencing your own population should be the norm now – it's key to better health care, understanding disease, and unlocking what makes each population unique. Amazing feat by @ccmb_csir 👏🏼

Grief is not a purely negative emotion. Over time, it becomes bittersweet—sadness is joined by love and gratitude.
Nostalgia is a healthy response to loss. Longing for the past motivates us to appreciate the present and improve the future.
The goal of coping is not to erase pain. It's to gain purpose.

When I was young I fixed my parents’ computer and now that I’m older I fix computers for my kids. Are we the only generation that knows how computers work?

Power outage in our lab since 24 hours power backups also finished. @KElectricPk says they’ll call as soon as their team is near by but hasn’t contacted at all. Will lose a lot of samples and reagents if they don’t reach in time.
