Really interesting move today: @Qualcomm just acquired Ventana Micro Systems, doubling down on RISC-V as a first-class CPU architecture. This bolsters Qualcomm’s server, edge and AI ambitions with Ventana’s data-center class RISC-V cores and chiplet IP. Expect more custom, open-architecture silicon, and growing pressure on Arm/x86 incumbents. Leadership has danced around the discussion of RISC-V when asked during its legal battles with Arm, but this move clearly paints a strategic direction for the company. This could take years to come to fruition, and could target only select segments, but spending on an acquisition like this isn't just for show.
