"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." — Nelson Mandela
Here’s how two classrooms, nearly 8,500 km apart can shape the future.
I'm Esther Mosunmola Ajibade, and this is my entry for #NewDayEducation2026, exploring higher education in Nigeria and the Russian Federation.

My boss said something in training last week that every journalist using AI needs to hear
Artificial intelligence might be easy-peasy, but you’re gradually losing your worth and credibility as a journalist.
You get so comfortable and reliant over time that you turn a blind eye to its defects and the unethical approach it introduces into news writing.
It is the responsibility of journalists to report truthfully and fairly without drawing any conclusions, allowing readers to make their own judgments.
AI works with prompts; it's trained to synthesize and summarize, which frequently leads it to form conclusions and introduces bias.
That’s not Journalism, but a shortcut with consequences.
AI doesn’t understand history; instead, it collects information from various sources to respond to your command. It is aware of whatever it has been taught and generates information based on that information.
You can ask an AI tool which party Peter Obi represents, and depending on the prompt you’ve trained it with, you could get three different answers.
Labour Party (his 2023 platform), ADC (where he moved in early 2026), or NDC (his current party as of mid-2026), where he’s the presidential candidate for 2027.
Just imagine a journalist referring to Peter Obi in 2026 as the former Labour Party presidential candidate. That’s outdated.
A journalist who doesn’t verify and simply trusts what AI generates could publish outdated or even false information without realizing it.
AI should not write our stories. It can support research, but it should not replace the verification and balance that real journalism demands. Our credibility is the one thing we can’t outsource.
These are the main conclusions drawn from the meeting involving my boss Mr. Ope Adeniyi, me, and my colleagues.
The points presented below reflect my interpretation of the topic discussed during the meeting and should not be taken as direct quotations or as his exact words.
Nigeria is almost half women. In the National Assembly? Not even 5%.
4 of 109 Senate seats. 17 of 360 House seats. 0 female governors across 36 states. 15 states with zero female legislators.
We had a female governor once, Dame Virginia Etiaba, Anambra, 2006. It's been 20 years since.
I believe representation isn't a favour. It's math.
Women's groups are still pushing for the Reserved Seats Bill in the National Assembly, still pending as of Feb 2026.
I’m curious to ask: how many women can actually afford nomination forms and campaign costs? How many parties are willing to back a female candidate?
Drop your two cents below. 👇
